JuanVelasco 27 Posted June 24, 2009 What ever happened to Phil Mulryne? I''ve always found it hard to work out whether he was a completely over rated player that was carried by us for 5 years, or whether he was actually very talented and p*ssed it all away......Does anybody know what he does now or where he lives? To think that he only played 6 proffessional games after leaving Norwich at 28 years old.... really makes me wonder. Last club was Kings Lynn, who released him on his 30th birthday...... (that was nice of them!).A strange one that. Anybody got any rumours / news / gossip / inside knowledge or experiences of Phil Mulryne?Personally I think that it was the unfortunate combination of not actually being that good, crossed with being a little too fond of the city centre bars and takeaways..... The Walking Man 13 Posted June 24, 2009 I always thought he was a talented player who was never the same after breaking his leg. But then the writing was on the wall in terms of his career when he got booted from the NI squad for a ''breach of discipline.''According to wiki he''s training with Cliftonville at the moment... ACE 0 Posted June 24, 2009 For me it was the leg break. He spent many months basically hanging around Delaneys in the city drinking, I used to see him all the time. When he came back he was less sharp and had lost his bottle (for tackling not drinking....).Him and McVeigh dragged each other down IMHO with their drinking. Matt Juler 211 Posted June 24, 2009 I believe that the drinking got a little out of control and he needed (and took) help to overcome it. He has now turned to religion, and apparently is living a very happy content life.

I can''t help but see the irony.I worked in Delaneys for some time. Him and Brennan were in there ALL the time. Pre and post leg break. He''s a miserable waste of space in my opinion. Used to chew weird, brown tobacco looking stuff because he was addicted to nicotine. We all have vices, but getting paid silly money and then pissin'' it away is totally daft. Lincs CR 0 Posted June 24, 2009 He was linked with Cliftonville but I think he then got invited to train with linfield and was hoping to get into the irish leagues... don''t think anything happened in the end
(Northern) Irish Canary 48 Posted June 24, 2009 In the run up to the Northern Ireland - England game in 2005 (remember that one? ), Mulryne and Jeff Whitley went out on the soup prior to an international game (i.e. breach of discipline) and were subsequently banned from playing international duty until they apologised - they never did and missed the big match and never donned the NI jersey again. Basically, I think arrogance, illusions of grandeur, drink, laziness and injury combined to resukt in his downward spiral.....trust me, it doesn''t get any worse than training with Cliftonville! To think that he couldnt even getting himself excited about the prospect of playing a huge game against England and would rather get drunk just says it all to me! To the bar staff and stuff? My Dad used to drink in Temple Bar, and Mulryne walked in and reached behind the bar to steal a Guiness hat.... everybody else had to buy 4 pints of Guiness I think..... My dad said "oi, who the f*ck do you think you are, put it back", Phil Mulryne said "F*ck off you c*nt I will do what I want, when I want, you know who I am". At this point the landlord, who knew both of them and didnt want it to kick off, said "no, no its ok, Phils going to put £20 in the charity box arent you Phil?"....... he actually did though in fairness, probably because of a huge bar tab though! BobbyLo 0 Posted June 24, 2009 Hey Juan, good user name, terrible footballer!Well, to be honest, he never said much. Just expected people to know who he was. I used to see him around all the time when I worked for the newspaper too. On my way to work he''d be dropping his chick at that time off (girl who now does "lads mags" and obviously is a money grabber!)He just used to demand a double vodka and get a bunch of them down him too. I don''t really care when I see a City player. To me it''s not a big thing, but you can see why they get a bad name for themselves. We got them all in there. Safri was probably the most down to earth and McVeigh used to get guitar lessons from my friend. His brother used to come in a lot too, who is a really nice dude. Also, another of my friends is really tight with Rob Green. He is a genuinely nice guy.As for Mulryne, the Temple Bar debacle is totally messed up! What a numpty!
