Pete Raven 276 Posted July 21, 2004 There is a site with a colour pic of the back of the River End, possibly during City''s first ever game at Carrow Road. I''ll see if I can find it...

Flick Fleck 0 Posted July 22, 2004 Great pic of the old Barclay - reminds me of the good old days in the pen :-)Is that the new City Stand peeking out in the corner there? If so, then the pic must be around 86/87, I reckon...
alex_ncfc 686 Posted July 22, 2004 Good pic.As for when it was, I reckon it''s early 90s, because you can see the ''new'' city stand, and the goal net at the barclay has the yellow netting doesn''t it? Hmm, should get out more lol.
Karl Pilkington 0 Posted July 22, 2004 I was always led to believe that the south stand was the first norwich stand to be covered and it was paid for with the proceeds of the 1959 cup run.If the above is correct how can it be of behind the southstand in 1935????Please Explain
At last? 0 Posted July 23, 2004 IFTThe picture from 1935 shows the car park, the river end stand and the main stand with roof. The south stand was roofless until the 50s.
Karl Pilkington 0 Posted July 23, 2004 I always thought that the South Stand was the first to have a roof......or is this me being an idiot???
Pete Raven 276 Posted July 23, 2004 Nope - Main Stand first, followed by the Barclay then the South Stand. The first development at the new ground followed in 1937, with the erection of cover at the Station End, renamed the Barclay End in honour of Captain Evelyn Barclay, a vice-president of the club who donated the roof costs.More than 430,000 people watched the Canaries battle their way through to their first FA Cup semi-final appearance in 1959 and the profits from this run were spent on South Stand improvements, most notably a cover two-thirds the length of pitch. BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted July 24, 2004 I thought that it was the middle third of the old south stand that was covered first.Or maybe my memory is playing tricks?OTBC
Karl Pilkington 0 Posted July 24, 2004 I stand (get it) corrected. Pete and bow to your superior knowledge.Cheers
