SuperWesIrishWizard 0 Posted July 7, 2008 Would probably look something like this....... MarshallOtsemober Doherty Shackell BertrandCroft Fotheringham Clingan Hoolohan Russell CuretonObviously I only have one up front purely because we dont have any other worthy strikers, But if I was to replace with something like this: MarshallOtsemober Gorkks Shackell BertrandBell Fotheringham Clingan Hoolohan Sibierski RigtersSubs From: Cureton, Russell, Martin, Drury, Chadwick, Pattison, Spillane, Croft, Doherty, New GK Suddenly we dont look so weak, I think we are all worrying about nothing, and only three key signings are required, along with another 3 or 4 for squad depth, we already have 3 very good quality signings and plenty of back up in certain positions. So Reoders comment "You will not recognise this squad"...... would be true after just 4 more key signings......Suddenly Ive started to feel a little optimistic...... can u sit down please 0 Posted July 7, 2008 I dont know if Russell would fil the whole role. With current numbers i would go with: MarshallOtsemobor Doc Shacks Bertrand Clingan Russell FozzyCroft Hoolahan Cureton

TheCardinal 0 Posted July 7, 2008 A good thread, Ryank, that has gone nearly overlooked.I think the team you''ve listed is our best 11 at the moment - with without a shadow of doubt our strike force being the major, major issue. We have quite a strong midfield now and while our defence isn''t as strong as any of us would like, that defence is at least capable of doing a job. For me, I''d like to see two new strikers and a new defender - and then for me, anyone else signed is a bonus. The two strikers you list would be a class act in this division, and would be available relatively inexpensively. The big issue would be their wages. In defence, I''d like to see Jack Cork join his Chelsea companion here at Carrow Road. Cork seems to be one of those young lads who is not Chelsea material, but looks more than a class act at this level. Bring him in on loan, and hopefully give him cause to want to stay and sign him up - and in him we''d have an England youth international with lots of potential that sorts our right back and center half need. However, your suggestion of Gorkss would be very, very welcome here too.

Cureton is not good enought to lead the line and needs to be used, IMO, as an impact player. The defender is necessary because without a new defender, we really have no depth to our defence. blahblahblah 2 Posted July 7, 2008 If we need cover for every position, and in a 50 game plus season we do, then we still appear to be light even with 2 strikers and a new central defender.Assuming we get Gorkss, Bell, Sibierski, and Rigters, and a new keeper, there''s still the matter of who covers for Otsemobor at Right Back, Hoolahan on the wing (unless Pattison sorts himself out, or Chadwick returns from regular injuries), and we''d still be light in central midfield. I think that Russell would get the nod for me over Clingan, who hasn''t played above league 1. That said, the players on the subs bench are capable of playing in other positions, but if we were to get the kind of injury crisis we''ve had in previous years, we will struggle. I guess this is where loans from the Premiership play their part ?
O.T.B.C 1 Posted July 7, 2008 I think that is why have Bertrand. He can cover very well both full back and left wing pushing both Drury and Hoolahoop.
KCASN 0 Posted July 7, 2008 Marshall Semmy Doc Shax (unfortunately) Bertrand Croft Rusty Clingan Hoolahan Curo New Boy OTBC!
Stevo 0 Posted July 7, 2008 The worrying aspect is the lack of depth. One or two injuries and the weakness of the squad is horribly exposed. But I guess the difficulty is attracting and bringing in ''squad'' players who may realise they won''t be in Glenn''s first choice XI
votepedro 0 Posted July 7, 2008 how about: marshallsemmy doc shacks drury clinganchadwick bertrand hooly cureton martin (for now)
votepedro 0 Posted July 7, 2008 that didn''t come out how i typed it... but basically a diamond with clingan in front of the defence and hoolihan in the whole behind the strikers.
Costa-Canary 0 Posted July 7, 2008 agreed, we must get 2 new first choice strikers and a quality cb as these were the areas of most concern to me last season, and if these 3 positions are of premiership quality then they alone would be enough for us to at least finish mid table. Scooby 0 Posted July 7, 2008 Good post Ryank. It''s not until you actually sit down and try and pick a side that you realise quite how thin on the ground we are. It worries me that Doc and Shacks pick themselves at centre half. We need 2 more there in my opinion, one quality experienced CH to start and one more for cover, or have people forgotten how" leaky" we were last season. As everyone has realised, I think, two strikers are definately called for, one of them should be premiership quality (bottom half probably) Ameobi or Sibierski would suit me but I''m not holding out much hope.I''d definitely give Chadwick a start and hope his injury problems are behind him. Hopefully, with a good pre-season, he can show us all what he''s really made of.Oh and "Blah", if you read this, Clingan may not have played above league 1 but lets not forget he is an International and was pretty good against the likes of Spain by all accounts. Give the lad a chance and all that ........Another 6 signings would do for me. 1 x GK, 2 x CB, 1 x RB 2 x CF
