Iwan is God 0 Posted March 23, 2008 Thanks for the kind words, camuldonum. Did you go today? At half time I considered us to be very lucky to be leading. After the break we were much better though & I think we deserved to win the 2nd half. Its a shame you''re going down asw any team with a mutual dislike for Ipswich are OK in my book! Camuldonum 0 Posted March 25, 2008
Out of interest Camuldonumwhat is the reasoning behind the hatred of Cureton from soo many of your fans?
This is a fairly vociferous minority (in terms of outright abuse), probably the Barside lot who gave him a rough time at Layer Road and who, if it helps, have spent most of this season abusing our own players, particularly when the youngsters have come on (something I find equally appalling). It has got through to our players - several of them have admitted so.There is absolutely no excuse for verbal abuse of either sort (in my opinion) but there are certainly quite a number of supporters who were disgruntled (without resorting to abuse) about the manner of Jamie''s departure. We knew that clubs were watching him and towards the end of the season the rumours came thick and fast involving both Championship and Premier League clubs - how many were fact and how many were rumours is unknown to me.They were so persistent that Jamie went on a PR exercise, categorically stating that he was not interested in leaving the U''s and to hammer home this point he went on the local TV/radio circuit to say the same thing. He also spent the best of a day signing Cureton shirts at Layer Road where the Blue And White Faithful young and old lined up to be parted from their money. Within a very short space of time it was announced he was going to you!I think the shirts are currently about three for a £1 (only joking).During these PR rounds Jamie said all the usual things - loved Colchester, thought they could make the playoffs next (this) season, wanted to be a part of it, thought the club could go all the way (Stuff we have all heard ad infinitum).Of course after the event he said all the stuff you would expect him to say about Norwich - "I want a club with ambition" and because the two were so close together I think it rankled with people. I actually think the shirt signing upset people more because, naturally, a lot of young supporters wanted a shirt signed by their goal scoring hero and Mum and Dad had to part with a fair amount of money to realise their dream or have their photo taken.I''ll be generous and say that some of the events were badly timed! How much any of this can be laid at Jamie''s door I cannot say but I do know one or two club officials felt that the whole event could have been handled a lot better. All that said there is absolutely no excuse for the abuse he got at Colchester and apparently at Carrow Road and personally I completely disassociate myself from any of it - just as I am sickened by the abuse of our own players. It''s only a comparitive few but they always seem to have the loudest mouths. On behalf of the decent U''s supporters (I believe some did applaud him) I apologise on behalf of the Neanderthal''s. 0ridgemanddMMyyyy0Falseen-USTrue 0 Posted March 25, 2008 Thanks for yours comments Camuldonum I would just like to say despite your position Colchester are a better footballing team than the position indicates and we have seen far worse performances by other teams this season. Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted March 26, 2008
I think that''s what is called a "right tonking"Good luck for the rest of the season.
Good luck to you and the rest of the Col U fans next season, Camuldonum. I hope I don''t come across as being patronising in saying this, but I think that you and the rest of the Col U supporters represent true football fans - years of little success but you still keep faithful to your hometown football club. None of that following the Big Four from the comfort of the pub or your home armchair for you, although I bet there are a fair number of Arsenal, Spurs or West Ham glory boys in Colchester, aren''t there? I know we have more than enough big club "followers" here in Norfolk, but the temptation to follow the likes of Arsenal or Spurs must be greater where you live - being so much nearer to London.
