Syteanric 1 Posted February 15, 2007 setting both our game and Ispwich''s game on the same day! Surely one of the games should of taken place on the sunday to eradicate any trouble at all???? If there is any trouble it will get in the press and make us look bad. i would lay blame firmly at the feet of the Football Association who have had weeks to do something about it yet havent.jas :)
salp 0 Posted February 15, 2007 why not send canary fans to London via Cambridge?

And it''s only going to be worse on the way back if one of the teams (hopefully us) has pulled a result off and gloats over the rival supporters. Could be nasty, big mistake, they''ve made a boo boo here. And before anyone says it''s no different to derby day...it is. You would never have that amount of Canary/ipsh1ta fans stuck on a train or tube together for that long.

Matt Juler 211 Posted February 15, 2007 On a Saturday London (and Birmingham New St. for that mater) is swarming with fans from all teams. I pass through either Liverpool St. if heading to Norwich, or Euston/Kings Cross/St. Pancras if heading North to games, and there''s never any trouble. Often when we get back to Liverpool St. the Ipswich fans are waiting for trains back to Suffolk. You might get a few verbals, but that''s it. Nothing the BTP can''t cope with. I work in London and on matchdays there are high numbers of rival London club fans together all the time on the tube/train/dlr/bus etc etc . Should London clubs only be able to play when no other London club is playing? Only two weeks ago I was on the tube in a carriage with Spuds and Gooners, there was some ribbing and banter but it was all in good spirits.
canary cherub 1 Posted February 15, 2007 Also totally unrelated, but reminds me of a delightful incident when I lived in London in the ''90s and endured the daily commute from the East End to the West End, changing at Liverpool Street. In winter I sometimes wore a jacket with a Canary badge. One evening as I was heading up the escalator, trapped in a lemming-like mass of humanity, above the din I heard someone bellow "SCUM!". I looked round to see a beaming Binner heading past me in the opposite direction. As we passed like ships in the night there was only time to exchange a grin, but it was worth a thousand words. We were both on alien soil, and for a brief moment it was "Us against the Rest of the World" . . .

The rivalry is for inside the ground and based on what happens on the pitch...I think that if Ipswich and Norwich fans are lucky enough to meet up on the transport system on Saturday they''ll have a good laugh with each other...no point doing anything else! I think Jas''s point is a fair one, and without scaremongering, there is a reason to be concerned. That amount of rival supporters confined in a small area for any length of time is potentially asking for trouble. Let''s hope the day passes peacefully, but it''d be foolish to completely write of the risk of violence. Just my 2 cents.
