BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted December 19, 2006 We saw the obvious effects of this on West Ham against Man United on SundayOne suspects that this syndrome has just about run it''s course with Peter Grant.Nitty gritty time now. Quite frankly, I''m worried.OTBC.
Evil Monkey 52 Posted December 19, 2006 As many of us have been saying for some time, Grant needs to be given time to rebuild the squad, and luckily this poor run is coinciding with the oncoming transfer window - if the board see the "quality" of the squad stretched as it is, then they may be persuaded to invest more in players in January - though I don''t think shipping out Hughes and Robbo is a good idea just yet, we still need people to play reserve games [;)]
blahblahblah 2 Posted December 19, 2006 We have a tough game against Wolves, this will, I suspect, prove to be the shortest / darkest day. Then we have Southend and QPR to play, even the available players will be able to get something from that. And then there is the hope of new faces and squad strengthening in January. This team played badly last season, and got 6 or 7 consecutive wins at home. If we can replicate that in the second half of the season, there is still hope of a play-off spot. The season is only half-way through, so never mind the danger. 7rew 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Has anyone considered that Grant may be indulging in some brinkmanship with the board by not playing safri?with safri the board say "O my we have a reasonable midfield, only need one central mid to make it brilliant."without safri the board say "O waily waily, we have an awful midfield, better get a new pair in toot sweet, also some backup."Which sentement would you want the board to have when you give them your wishlist of players?Just speculation. JC 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Crikey BBB! I wish I could be as optimistic as you! With the players we have, I have no confidence of results against Southend or QPR, in fact I think we could be in big trouble. Imagine the potentially more realistic scenario, lose to Wolves, lose to Southend, lose to QPR (maybe scrape a point somewhere in there) and then get knocked out of the FA Cup..... 7rew 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Thing is even with safri we would be beaten by soton and wolves imho... so why not point out how shit some of the players are?
macdougalls perm 0 Posted December 19, 2006 Yes there is a logic to the New Manager Syndrome you talk about, but I think it is more down to our v weak midfield. He has made a couple of crazy decisions but I think that if we could stengthen our central midfield in January (possibly with the inclusion of Chadwick at RCM?) we would notice a marked improvement in the whole team''s performance. It is obvious that this is the most important area of the pitch for any team hoping to play a passing game and that, at the moment, this is where we are going t*ts up. And why we only get anywhere near the opposition goal when Dublin goes up front for twenty minutes so we can bypass our midfield. I am very intrigued by what Grant may or may not try to do in January. Anyone know the latest on when Chadwick is expected back?
