Bring Back The Doc!

Recommended Posts

If Doherty is fit for Saturday I think Grant should put him straight back in beside Shackell so that Dublin can play up top with Earnshaw in the same system we played on Tuesday night. Whereas I agree that the defence has looked solid with Dublin, I feel that the benefits of him playing up front are greater. Doherty hasn''t really let us down this season and he wants to be a defender in the same way Dublin wants to be a striker. Thorne can''t last 90 minutes at the moment but Dublin/Thorne could do 90 between them.

I liked the 442 we played on Tuesday, having Thorne up front with Earnshaw made all the difference. I noticed that Thornes presence in the box allowed Robinson the space to get the equalizer and Huckerby and Etuhu could also benefit from making runs into the box when we play this system. Also when we are defending a set piece we would have an extra defender in Dublin.

So for Saturday I would play Camp in goal, I know it''s only one game but I was well impressed with him. It''s a shame he has to go back because that was the best goalkeeping performance of the season for me. Back four : Colin-Doherty-Shackell-Drury. If either full back is still injured I would replace with Hughes, if they are both injured then help!! Midfield : Robinson-Safri-Etuhu-Huckerby although if both fullbacks are fit Hughes probably deserves a place but this is the four for me. Up front: Dublin-Earnshaw. Always start with the strongest team and when Dublin tires bring on Thorne for the last 20 mins.

In this instance I will ahve to say ''why change a winnign team''. With the way earnie is scoring playing him up there with Thorne/Jarvis will work. However if we leak goals at the back we have a major problem. Dublin has been the leader at the back - the first since Malky really - and we need him there.

We have turned the corner with results and are on the way up - a good run at Christmas and we will be in the top 6. Got to play the best performing team at the moment and that means Dublin at the back

As is Robinson but I''m sure that takes a week to process so both will be available for Sunderland but suspended for Sheff Wed.

Just checked with the FA and Safri''s suspension starts on 5th December (so a week since the Leicester game).

No mention of Robinson though so maybe he only has 4 yellow cards...

For me, I would keep Dublin in for Sunderland. He was MOM against them a few weeks back so seems crazy not to play him against them this time.

My Team would be

Camp

Colin  Shax  DD  Drury

Hughes  Etuhu Saf   Hucks

      Thorne   Earnie

If Drury doesnt make it then hughes at LB and Robbo RW.  I would prefer to rest Robbo for this game as we will need him for the Sheff Wed game as Saf wont be available. Need to give players a rest at any oppurtunity at this stage of the season. Might aswell play Saf as he will have next weeks game as a rest.

Dion has to stay in defense, he was again impressive at the back and our BEST defender so WHY take him out of the team.  I am sure the Doc could do just as good a job as the ageing Dublin could if called upon up front for the last 20 minutes.  Safri has to play if fit.  On tuesday he showed exactly why he should be in the team.

only red card suspensions are automatic, unless appealed against. yellow card suspensions are effective 7 days after the fifth booking.

There''s no way I would suggest taking Dion out of the team. It''s a close call but I think having a big man up top outweighs any advantage of playing Dion ahead of The Doc at the back. Tired legs is the last thing you want up front for the last 20 minutes. Thorne can''t last for 90 minutes and we all saw what happened when we reverted to 451 when Jarvis replaced him on Tuesday. Dublin and Thorne could play 90 between them up front with Earnshaw and that was the thinking behind my post.

Baldyboy is correct in that Safri isn''t suspended until after the Sunderland game.
I know I shouldn''t rise to this thread, but here goes: Donkey''s best position is left out, keep him in it!.
This is a better thread for your appearance in it.

It doesn''t matter now because it looks like he is still injured and that leaves no alternative to Dion at the back. Shame really because if Thorne is fit he won''t last 90 which will leave us playing one of those "mystery formations" where we try and find a way to fit in the undoubted talents of McVeigh or Jarvis.

Shame there was too much prudence in the summer in the summer when Worthy wanted Steve Howard.

Serious question N Nigel: Do you think Howard would have been the answer?, I just don''t know myself.

I wasn''t sure at the time Wiz because I thought 1m was a lot of money. So for my part hindsight is a wonderful thing. But Worthy thought so, just the same as he thought we should have got Ashton at the beginning of the Premiership season. Howard has scored about nine I think for Derby. Seeing us with a big guy up front with Earnie has convinced me, and just think what those nine goals could have meant to us.

I would definitely keep Dublin in defence. Is Thorne ever fit?? Even when he isn''t injured there seems to be some reason why he can''t play a full game. How about playing Doc up front with Earnie and keeping Dublin in defence if Thorne can''t play??
