Rustyboy 2 Posted October 20, 2006 Was it just me or did anybody else get peed off with the commentator of the Newcastle match last night continually referring to the Turkish team as the canaries! It may be there nickname but they must be second to us in the canary fame!
Cluck 0 Posted October 20, 2006 Fenerbarce were apparently formed in 1910.......5 years after we were officially known as the Canaries. This means they are interlopers and have blatantly copied us. I suggest a boycott of all of their games........
Tufnell Park Canary 0 Posted October 20, 2006 I believe Nantes are also nicknamed the canaries. Not sure though
Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,223 Posted October 20, 2006 And FC Nantes Atlantique are also known as the Canaries and unlike Fenerbahce they play in yellow and green.
Evil Monkey 52 Posted October 20, 2006 I believe their full nickname is the Yellow Canaries, but I doubt whether there could be a ban on the commentators using that name just because it also belongs to us.This reminds me somewhat of reports a few years ago that Victoria Beckham wanted to ban Peterborough United from using the nickname POSH, despite them having been using it for far more years than that skinny bint...
