Will Southampton rest key players?

Recommended Posts

They can't move in the table, and Russell Martin has blamed their recent defeats on fatigue.

So why would he put out a strong team and risk injuries?

I suppose he won't want the psychological impact of a severe defeat against Leeds in case they meet again in the play-offs, but on the other hand if they are fatigued they'd have no chance in the play-offs anyway without resting players?

Just trying to work out whether there is any realistic hope of Leeds winning and Ipswich losing on the final day, just because, well, that would be just fantastic wouldn't it.

Did Preston? Did Swansea? No?

They don't have play-off games coming, what a silly reply.

Very risky as they're on a run of 3 defeats, another would put them in a really bad mindset going into the playoffs especially as there would be a fair chance of them having to play Leeds again to get through.  My guess is that "fatigue" is a convenient get out for a manager who doesn't want to say what he really thinks at this point in the season.

It wouldn't be that surprising if Leeds win but much more surprising would be a Huddersfield win, but it would be hilarious if it happens.

More interesting for us is that the other teams who will be or probably will be in the playoffs are all on poor runs.

Absolutely there is, and Alex Matos is going to get 'Uddersfield's winner!

We have an office in Leeds, so work with quite a few ardent Leeds fans.  They have such a poor record in the playoffs, they're convinced that either ourselves, WBA or Hull will knock them out in the semis.  Any hope of sneaking second seems to have gone.

That sums up the negativity of football fans when it comes to your own team as WBA, Us and Hull would prefer not to be playing them lol

They also had nothing to play for yet still went full strength.

You are missing the point, I am suggesting Southampton will rest fatigued players BECAUSE they have something to play for, at least two play off games!

There may be increased hope of Leeds winning if Saints rest a few but there’s zero chance Ipswich lose to a Huddersfield side that need a 15 goal swing to stay up. Honestly, let it go, they’re up, just accept it.
