How many points do we need?

Recommended Posts

Best to get to 75 but that is the absolute most we need. If the Binners beat Hull this weekend we don't need any more points.

If we lose our last 2 by 1 goal, and Coventry win their last 3 by 1 goal, Coventry will be above us on goal difference, so theoretically, we still need at least 1 draw to be clear of them. That's ignoring Hull of course.

Fair point. Unlikely but strange things happen. Just trying to make the point that we don't necessarily need to get 75 - it's the most we need.

I remain very optimistic that we will make the play offs and ACN will not resurface again this season. 75 points should be enough, as others have stated, and it would be helpful for our heart rates if those could be secured on Saturday please Mr Wagner.

The third placed team now looks likely to be Leeds or 1p5wich with the Saints in fourth and Leicester taking the title. I'm not sure my heart will cope with a local derby over two legs, although I think we would have more of a chance facing that rather than Leeds in the semis. Therefore an all out assault on fifth seems necessary to then allow the Baggies to overhaul the binners or dirty Leeds in the semis and for us to beat them in the final. So straight forward on paper. 😀

Oh well, we didn't actually need any more than 73 points to secure the play offs (I know: subject to crazy 7 goal swing with Hull and the baggies getting a point in the last game). I sincerely apologise that my predictions have been flawed over the last two home games and now need to put my mind into gear for the play offs.

As to who we will be playing, I cannot see the binners failing to win their last game on Saturday so here's hoping that the Sky Blues play with the freedom that Bristol and Swansea did at CR and smash the binners top two hopes with a home win themselves on Tuesday. Surely then Leeds would beat 'on the beach/resting the first 11' saints on the final day and secure promotion leaving us with either the saints or 1p5wich to face.

Here's a new question to ponder?

Who would you rather get into the playoffs WBA or Hull...given that we 'might' play one of them in a final??

Are you drawing me to say already whether or not we will be in the final? 😀

I think it has to be WBA as they are on a really bad run and even in January we beat them at home rather easily I felt. However, we did the double on Hull so either shouldn't be a problem.

I think we’ve competed well against all off the current top seven teams bar Leicester, so in some ways finishing sixth and getting a disappointed 3rd place team, may be better than finishing 5th and getting Southampton, who may be now have swallowed their disappointment and be ready for the fight.

Yes, the saints have had a little while now to come to terms with missing out on the automatic slots and if they were an EV they would now be ensuring that the battery is fully charged for the play offs.

Def preference for soton than Leeds who could score for fun.   Either way I'd expect both our SF to be high goal count with neither us or the opponents being tight at the back...

Leeds have extreme pace to hurt us (painful memories of our home game) and surprisingly they rather sat back and allowed us possession at Elland Road after taking the lead. In the end we probably deserved a draw there so with the pressure on in a second leg we could cause them problems.
