Not marking the opposition

Recommended Posts

This absurd idea seems to be fading, at last. One that has, if you shuffle about in the middle of the pitch when the opposition has the ball, they are bound to pass it to you at some point.

Whereas it simply allows the opposition to get the ball to the final third of the pitch, within striking range of the goal. A factor that has seen us conceding the second highest number of goals in the division. This absurd concept of marking space rather than the opposing players is akin to setting out a cricket 'field' by having the remaining 9 fielders equally spread out on the boundary

if you can cut through the newspeak mumbo jumbo, it appears this chap can see the problems as well

Whoever is coaching the U18's can see the obvious flaws as when watching their televised game v Leeds it was clear they didn't practice this stupidity.

I just love the way we continually back off attacking players. The only way we could be more helpful would be holding up a sign saying 'Goal this way, with an arrow pointing

Lost count of the number of times I have thought something along the lines of "Tackle him you idiot" this season.. We do seem to have a habit of just letting players run straight into our box unchallenged

Good, it's not just me who notices our inability to tackle anyone, and backing off so the attacking player can have an easy strike at goal.

This was certainly noticeable against WBA, even with 11 men, seems ridiculous how we just seem to let the opposition stroll from before half way up to the penalty spot.

Fassnacht just trots around never getting near the opposition, no wonder we ship so many goals

This has been the case for ages due to the lack of a natural CDM but is particularly noticeable with our two man midfield under Wagner

That's been the case with Norwich for years. When is the last time we had someone who can tackle and tackle hard? Probably Tettey and even then he wasn't everyones cup of tea because he couldn't pass the salt.

Our fullbacks do seem a bit useless at closing down and none of our centre backs are exactly fleet of foot.

Utter nonsense !

One player can only mark one player. You could have a world class player, but if the rest are instructed (as he would be) to mark space not players then you have the same problem. It is the same with this ridiculous **** marking at corners. The ball moves faster than any player. Standing in one spot means you are at risk of having+ 2/3 players attacking the ball, while you are static hoping it will land on your head. Again, this lunacy seems to be disappearing.

Much as with 'playing out from the back' whereby after risky tip tapping it around the ball is finally hoofed up field. Something Gunn could and should have done in the first place.
