That  will be interesting, especially with the new stoppage times, they have to stop transmitting live coverage at 15:00.

14:45 is where the blackout starts on Saturdays.

That makes it even tighter then!

Would be very interesting if there's a long stoppage in either half to see what happens.  I'm most curious whether officials would drop a few minutes off the calculated time to appease Sky, you wouldn't want it to occur, but I wouldn't rule it out either.

I had the same thought too.

It's BT ....no my bad, they now call it TNT (but it's BT Sport in old money)....

Can’t believe it’s even a thing anymore. It’s like football is stuck in the 70’s for not showing 3pm kick offs

The clubs voted to keep it in, after Covid.

That’s up to them but all the old arguments and justification for it is pretty null and void at this point

I think the argument is to protect the lower leagues attendances.

The assumption being people would stay in to watch higher ranked matches on the tele at 3pm than go to  lower local teams, and support them.

It's also doing people out of watching live games on their BT/Sky subscriptions if they go to games themselves. So it would undermine the value their own viewers get too.

Not if you supported a lower league side though

theoretically maybe. But the fact that, as an example, they have scheduled a match when the Women's World cup final is on would indicate that isnt in their thought process

The logic applies for any matches. I support Norwich, but pay for both Sky and TNT, but I usually have to miss part of a live TV match when attending in person.

Would be a valid argument if football wasn’t on day of the week now anyway.

Agreed - Sky & TNT have never put fans first. But the 3pm rule can make them feel as if they are!

Smoke and mirrors.

I'm saying that the established rule prevents them from undermining customers too.  So it's not something everyone would like to see abolished.   Personally, I like that live matches are sandwiched around the 3pm kickoffs as it's great if you're going to a match and going to a pub before or after.

So yes, it's antiquated, but there's more to it for me than just protecting lower league attendances.

So what happens at 14:45 ? This game is going to go past it

You'd imagine that they've already got some kind of waiver due to it being outside of their control and no intention to broadcast live during those times?

There was a game recently that had a delayed start, and if I recall correctly it was stated that delay couldnt be pushed back any further due to the 3pm (2.45) curfew.

Cant remember who it was now. Possibly one where they were clearing a pitch following a heavy down pour or rain.

It's a daft rule. I find it hard to believe a true supporter of a non league game wouldn't turn up if Arsenal were on live at 3pm.

It's even more daft when the likes of Canaries TV will let you watch the game at 3pm for a tenner, cheaper than a supporter who makes the effort to actually be there in the stadium and whilst lower league football is on.

That's only available to oversea customers, though.

Its the big hitting Sky / TNT appeasing the lower league teams.

No it's available to anyone with a VPN isn't it?

Because the VPN fools the server to believing you are out of the UK.

Not sure if you can subscribe to Canaries TV with a UK bank account - ive never tried.

No, it's very much not available to those with VPN, you get the service terminated if caught using one as it's used to spoof your geolocation.

From https://www.canaries.co.uk/canariestvtacs

8. Suspension and Termination

8.1. We may suspend or terminate your access to all or part of Canaries TV at any time if:

8.1.6. You are proved to be using a VPN to access the platform

and in each case no refund will be provided.

Yes I realise that but I bet NCFC won't care.

Most people I know have a VPN because it allows them access to things like Neflix US etc.
