Feedthewolf 4,894 Posted August 1, 2023 I have it on good authority that the U9s won their match 4-3... one of my colleagues' sons plays for them

Almost the direct opposite of the first team. The youth teams have a remit of developing players as opposed to simply winning games
NewNestCarrow 203 Posted August 1, 2023 The U16s also won their 'derby' match, away from home, 2-

Signing a local lad for a cheap-ish fee , who is in the first team at 20 yrs old, with room for development; on low wages who is happy to commit for the long-term. What's not to like? No team at our level is made up exclusively of Pukkis or Buendias

Let's all pray he scores against them in our December derby
BroadstairsR 2,206 Posted August 2, 2023 (edited) Ipswich couldn't achieve Cat 1. Status no matter how much they tried. Although they have a decent history of succeeding with bringing through youth players, times have changed. In recent years, and with few exceptions, they have hardly brought any through to their first team. Dozzell, Downs and Wolfenden spring to mind and there will be others, but this is over quite a longish period. All their managerial changes over nearly twenty years, since Keane through McCarthy and Lambert have built their teams from the marketplace, even when in L1. Unlike City they have not done it by sales, and build up losses. I remember a TWTD thread bemoaning the influence of NCFC in the area and in their local schools. The signing of Gibbs highlights all this. They have seemed more concerned with buying their route from L.1 rather than promoting youth. Their academy/training facilities seem decent, but not a patch on ours. I sense that their current a manager is more aware in respect to this, but he has still bought almost all the probable starting eleven for their opening game this coming season. It works with massive financial backing, but for clubs like Ipswich and Norwich this is not a sustainable approach in the long-run. FFP plays a significant part in this also. Despite the pension fund they are not a Manchester United or even a Forest and the investor they rely upon is not a bottomless pit and will need returns on outlay sooner rather than later, especially now that they have finally reached the Championship again. They (TWTD) frequently talk of Premier League football and even Europe, but don't seem to have a clue what that involves in terms of outlay. The Premier League is not a money spinner for teams of their status and as for top-six and Europe ... come on! They live in the past, but we know that already. Interestingly just saw on social media that Rak-Sayki who was said for some time to be linked to Ipswich has now gone changed his mind and is set to sign for Leicester. Quite a few of their fans seem a little depressed about this (And the fact a lot of transfer links relating to them have fallen apart recently) and are all "Looks like we are just not as strong a pull as we thought.." Could it be true? Could the binners at last have seen some sense? That can't be.. They won trophies 50 years ago so they're clearly a massive household name of a club! How dare a player turn them down for Leicester!😂 Edited August 2, 2023 by cambridgeshire canary
