Corners

Recommended Posts

We don’t really appear to be benefiting much from the new set piece coach unless the tactic for corners is to hit the closest opponent at the near post? Hitting Grant Hanleys head isn’t the best choice either as he has the uncanny knack of directing nearly every header high or wide. Yes he scores one a season but god he misdirects so many.

I was thinking this during the game yesterday. One of the few clubs in the Champs to have a set piece coach and we had loads of corners and barely cleared the first man. What is he actually coaching them to do?

Just copy and paste that remark for all our coaching staff.

Was pretty embarrassing seeing us seemingly taking the exact same failed corner time and time again over and over..

Whats wrong with ya?  That's called consistency!!!!  😉

Given that Hanley is claimed to be the fastest player on the team, and he's sh1** at headers (or shots) on goal, has management considered leaving him as the covering CB and sending AO or Gibbo up instead?

Delivery was carp before Sara came on.  Nunez was particularly poor and Dowell needs to be kept well aware.  Rashica last season was the worst.  Hanley was getting to corners but could not direct the ball better if he just flicks balls on.

It was a few years ago that he was claimed to be the fastest on the team to be fair.

I'd also assume he was fastest over a long distance, not so much the quick dashes needed most of the time.

The trouble is there's a limit how much you can practice them as not all pitches are the same width.

I can only assume Nunez was seeking out McLean on the near post but his delivery was pretty tragic.

Sara seems to have a bit more meat on the bone and can hit the longer ones but Omo needs to be the target. Hanley doesn't seem to know the difference between a defensive clearing header and an attacking downward bullet.
