Football tonight

Recommended Posts

The first round of the League Cup, with a few local derbies

Luton v Stevenage, Charlton v Wimbledon - and the two Brizzles playing M4 opposition, Cheltenham and Forest Green Rovers

Perhaps the binners will finally win, and give us the chance of meeting them in the next round

Meanwhile, the FA Cup begins its long journey, with Norfolk taking on Suffolk as Mulbarton play Lakenheath (mentioned elsewhere)

The PL might be the 'only game in town' for the media, but for a huge number of the 'football fraternity' these games are just as important

and for us, we have Martin, McCallum, Famewo and Sinani possibly in action. Though I suspect the latter two are as good as gone.

Much as I know a part of me would very much dislike it there is another part of me that would love, love love us to get a cup tie with the binners. Honestly feel it's probably the only chance we will get to face them anytime soon

They need it more than we do. I'd love it if they lost to Newport tonight, and then we drew Newport in the next round.

Honoured guest at poorman road tonight is Tom Daft, who claims he can remember Ipswich Town winning a trophy

According to Wikipedia we’re already through to the 3rd round. I know it’s wrong but it’s been like that for weeks.

Maybe they know we're getting drawn against Ipswich which is basically a bye to the 3rd round anyway

poorman road can be quite daunting

what with the rows of empty seats and the eerie silence,

broken only by the sound made by a handful of spotty young farmhands beating on an upturned swill bin

Mulbarton only now kicking off their second half after a seruous injury to a Lak player

Not looking too good in the other direction. Cook managed only 4 wins out of the 17 last season.

And draws against Colchester and Morecambe don't suggest things have begun to click - the latter only a draw thanks to a last minute goal. An emphatic defeat to Millwall can be explained by the difference in league positions, however the binners are talking of being a Chs team next year.

As to a home defeat to lowly Newport, who similarly played a weakened team, it will have certainly seen a few farmhands brought down with a bump. The millions they thought they were spending have not materialised, with a number of freebies including some 32 year old has been making up the newcomers.

There is nothing to say their season won't be a success, but there is every reason to think that quite a few binners are not waving banknotes around at the moment. 15,000 fewer at poorman road tonight than there were Saturday. That's a massive drop in numbers.

I was at Broadhall Way watching a couple of ex Norwich boys lose 3-0 on penalties against an average Stevenage side

To be fair Tammy Abrahams did get the winner for Newport .
(Sorry , Jeff , that should be Timmy Abraham)

Mulbarton now 1-1

Full-Time at Mulberry Park! And it has finished Wanderers 3-1

We are obviously delighted to have made it into the next round for the first time in our history.
