Manager of the month Farke an outside bet

Recommended Posts

Daniel's chance to win the latest MotM award in the last month  of the award looks unlikely and he will have to be happy with Championship Manager of the Season.

Bournemouth P4 W4

Watford P3 W2 D1

Barnsley P3 W2 D1

Norwich P3 W2 D1

Victories against Bournemouth, Watford and QPR will put Daniel in a strong position, fail to win all and again the award will go elsewhere.  A Bournemouth win at Carrow Rd will put Woodgate ahead in the race but tricky fixtures against Millwall and Brentford to come.  A Watford win puts Xisco in the race but tricky fixtures against Luton and Millwall could derail the attempt.  The favourite has to be Ismael at Barnsley who have three easy fixtures at Cov, Hudd'fd and Rotherham.

So Daniel up against it just lets win next 3 take us to near 100 points and win that accolade this time.  Certain the quality of the opposition will do it for Daniel.

Don't care so much about the monthly awards, if he doesn't win manager of the season again (when we win the title), however...

It seems the only way Farke will get another manager of the month award is by winning 7 out of 6

Or simply by winning more points than any other coach/manager in a calendar month, which hasn't happened yet this season and is a pretty simple explanation as to why he hasn't been named manager of the month.

It’s not only about points. 2 years ago we got the most points and they gave the season award to Wilder 🤔

That's a fair point actually, but usually the parameters for manager of the month are more straightforward, as whoever gets the most points wins, as has been the case every month this season. Manager of the season isn't always a case of 'league winner = manager of the season'.

My point though is that Farke not winning the manager of the month this season isn't quite the conspiracy many seem to think.

Are you sure we haven't won more points in a month than every other team for at least one month?

Yep. I actually checked after the March manager of the month was announced, and in every month the winner had obtained more points than us, with the exception of January when we tied with Swansea and Cooper won it.

So when we won nine or ten games on the trot the month or two embedded in that run we still didn’t get more points than any other team?

Not in a calendar month, no.

In February, we drew against Millwall and lost to Swansea in our first two matches before winning the other five. We took 16/21 that month, whereas Cardiff got 19/21, so McCarthy rightly won the award.

In March, we won our first four and then drew with Blackburn, so we took 13/15. Xisco at Watford won all five so achieved 15/15, and he won it.

For the record, the other months go like this:

January: Swansea/Cooper won with 10/12. Norwich 10/12.

December: Brentford/Frank won with 18/24. Norwich 17/24.

November: Ivic/Watford won with 11/15. Norwich 10/15.

October: Warnock/Boro won with 14/18. Norwich 13/18.

September: Paunovic/Reading won with 12/12. Norwich 4/12.

  • Thanks 1

Considering our points tally that's got to be a pretty weird stat in itself! Cheers
