Presser: injury chaos

It would indeed be a cunning news conference if Farke was just playing with Cooper's head!

Could well be some clever mind games from Farke indeed, CP - can see Farke quietly thinking this is a massive game to take 3 points from, and it certainly seems to be working on the Swan’s message board, one poster genuinely thinks they’re so much head and shoulders above us (and everybody else) that he or she is expecting them to put 4 or 5 goals past us tomorrow. Genuinely.

I’m really not happy about that Xavi injury. How there was no backup LB in the 24-man squad (and I’m not counting Gibson as we’re already light on CBS) is inexcusable.

What I found most interesting about the press conference, CW, was that Daniel said he was 90% sure that Xavi wouldn’t be available. Which obviously indicates that there’s still a possibility that Xavi could play tomorrow. I think as other posters have also mentioned, we might just be seeing the first of DF’s subtle mind games in action now the season has started in earnest.

I think all of us would like to see, for peace of mind as much as anything, a specialised recognised left back waiting in the wings, but there’s no way such an obvious detail would have been overlooked by Farke and Webber. That therefore leads me to only one conclusion, and that is between Aarons, Mumba, Rupp, Sorensen and I’m sure several others, Farke must be 100% certain he’s got some interchangeable players there that can not only do a job there, but do it well. Let’s face it, Sorensen for instance probably would be increasingly frustrated on the sidelines at this point (not good) had this not been a way to give the likes of him and others minutes on the pitch. So from the outside looking in it doesn’t appear ideal, granted, but I don’t think people who unquestionably clearly exhibit so much attention to detail as Farke and Webber would have overlooked this, and this is my little theory anyway. Our fill in players are probably still of a higher quality than most in the division to be honest!

I can understand people’s frustration at the LB situation but Farke and Webber aren’t stupid, it was obviously thought about at length before McCallum (and Klose) was allowed to leave on loan, they knew full well what other squad members could do in the back four. The results since Quintilla has been out prove that. Of course it’s not ideal but this message board tends to only see things in black and white, there are many shades of grey in between and the management know very well what they are and what can be done with them.

Too many people wetting themselves over these injuries. Farke is keeping his cards close to his chest, he knows this is a big game for us so why would he give anything away regarding his team selection. Calm down and lets wait and see.

had to Google him... is that who Manages (Coaches, whatever) Swansea? He's got a face for radio!

I just didn't see any mention on Zimbos progress since he was on the bench last time out...

If there is a game we want a settled defence, this is the one.

That’s the one, TJ! Couldn’t resist it after all the talk of Farke playing his cards close to his chest regarding team selection!

Joking apart, as far as I understand it, Zimbo’s back and good to go - just don’t tell Steve 😉

A longer list of doubtfuls tends to occur when Farke wishes to camouflage a tactical change or soften the public impression of a player being left out of the first xi or entire 18.

Parma

nb: There will always be a limited amount of truth in all of it as almost no player is ever 100% fit for any game.

This is the time for fresh legs, if the injury front is as bad as Farke reports.  We have had 6 games in less than a month since last international break.  Some are now reporting injuries maybe from knocks and probably fatigue.  Gibson being asked to play all 6 when not involved for previos 24 months.  Rupp again started all 6 probably never known such a hectic shedule.  Stiepermann beginning to look like a sicknote only started 3 of the 6.  Sorenson and Placheta youngsters probably never been asked to play so many high class games.

I feel fresh legs ought to be introduced for all 5.  Zimmermann for Gibson, Tettey or Mclean for Rupp, Vrancic for Stiepermann, AArons to LB bring in Mumba and Idah for Placheta.  We struggled to beat Millwall which might be down to tiredness.  The rest of the team is the usual most of players not required to start each of the 6.  And starting means you play for most of the match but might be subbed in final 10 mins.

I have analysed Swansea team over the same 6 games.  They have 7 players to have played in all  6 and 6 who have played 4 or more.  If we can meet our usual passing stats of 60% it is anticipated Swansea will struggle in the final quarter of the game.  Taking an early lead will require more energy to be expended, an early goal would be nice.  I expect at least some of the walking wounded to make the bench some pace from the bench would be hoped for Placheta or Martin.

Not the same though is it.....we are talking about finely tuned athletes who are on the edge of a tweak or a strain all the time. Not worth risking them if there are any doubts and I’m sure the sports science dept know far more about the player’s fitness than anyone on here.

With the greatest of respect, Daisy - I think we both know that professional footballers need a fitness level that is on a completely different ball game to what your Saturday and Sunday league footballers do. Don’t get me wrong, I used to be knackered after a Saturday league match but I reckon stick me in the pro game then I’d be done after 10 minutes at that pace and intensity! Not to mention offering the absolute worst performance since Graeme Souness signed ‘George Weah’s cousin’ 😂. It’s just not comparable!
