  1. Quote by YC: "I''m sorry Wizard, as much as I would like to support your perceptive skills, on this occasion they are not working. It truly was a wind-up." So why, pray tell did you react with such venom to my reply, which as I pointed out in a later post, was exactly what a wind up merchant is looking for and expecting. You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can''t fool all the people all of the time. Herb
  2. I''m looking to put my money where my mouth is and have a few bets on City''s finishing position next season. Has anyone else done the same? I''m thinking along the lines of: A tenner on avoiding relegation A tenner on a top 10 finish A tenner on a top 6 finish (yeah I know, but think of the odds!) Wonder what sort of odds I''ll get?
  3. Can''t see it happening . A manager like Arsene is astute enough to send players to clubs that suit their attributes. Bentley was made for Norwich, but that may not be the case for some players. Given that Worthy has already stated that he''d like to bring in another half dozen players this close season and (I assume) not all on loan from Arsenal, will there actually be room in the squad for a load of youngsters? They''re not going to be happy to come here and play reserve matches, nor would their manager. Besides, Bentley is a gem, even amongst Arsenal''s ample youth talent. His talent is, by all accounts, exceptional. I doubt even Arsenal have many more like him. Would we want a load of "not quite good enough" rough diamonds to polish for the likes of Arsenal?
  4. Question remains on the table? WTF do you think this is, the house of commons? Incidentally, if you take the time to read it, you''ll see my post was not directed at you, it was a reply to FGE. It neither asked for or required a response from yourself. Couldn''t resist it though, could you?
  5. QUOTE: "Not sure I understand this last message Herb." Why does that not suprise me? Just let it die, this thread has been given the last rites several posts ago.
  6. I''ve got mixed emotions about the playoffs. On the one had it is a stupid way to finish a season, irrational and unfair. 100% conceived because of the lure of more TV money. On the other hand, when I was making my way down to the Millenium stadium along with 35,000 other believers I''d have told you the playoffs were great! Despite the result it was an unbelievable day and part of the story of Worthy''s army. We''d just begun showing our claws then, the writing was on the wall. We wouldn''t have those memories without the playoffs. Plus it was funny when the scum went out :D
  7. FGE, very gracious of you and I appreciate it. I''m guilty of firing off posts without reading them through myself - who isn''t? (a good example being my first reply in this thread)
  8. Its worrying, but I''d heard rumours of "done deals" with loads of Premiership clubs all through the season. Fingers crossed we can hang on to him. He won so many points for us over the course of the season, its scary. Greeno must stay! Herb
  9. As it happens I don''t consider myself to be any sort of wing, but if you feel better putting labels on people then so be it. I don''t rely on any sort of media either, I''m better informed than that. The words "rely" and "media" don''t really sit well together, don''t you think? You acknowledge the silliness of YC''s post, yet you attack me for directing a little silliness back in his direction. Strange, no? Given that my sort of response is probably exactly what he was looking for I admit I shouldn''t have indulged, but I suppose it could be considered therapy for him. But if only opinions which praise America are acceptable to your delicate disposition, well I think you might find the world a rather hostile place over the next few years. I also don''t think its anyones place to be labeling someone a bigot based on an off the cuff comment on a forum. Thats just me though. Herb
  10. No way! The club has a good team spirit by all accounts, the last thing we need is a washed up primadonna with an over inflated ego. Worthy expects players to respect his authority (to quote Eric Cartman) How long before Di Canio throws his toys out of the pram? Bad idea.
  11. and well done to YC for the predictable outcome of his prediction. Leave it the experts son... :)
  12. Yeah, the same YC who thinks Norwich should merge with Ipswich! He''s been a wind up from day one, rarely has anything good to say about our team and I''m sure he''s a closet binner. In fact his adopted country has a lot in common with the scum. An over inflated sense of their own importance, delusions of grandeur and blaming everyone but themselves when things go wrong. Yep, the US deserves YC and he deserves the US.
  13. Hey, don''t let DumbleDelia hear you speaking ill of the boards. Thats tantamount to blasphemy I understand..... ;) Herb
  14. So you don''t think better forum software could improve it? I''m not having a go at the board''s general atmosphere or people (well, most of them!) just bemoaning the slow operation and lack of features. Even though you seem to disagree, I think I''m entitled to an opinion without being told to piss off. Herb
  15. Even better idea. Why not get some proper forum software instead of this "thing"? Sorry admin blokes, but I''ve been spoiled over the years by VBulletin which is imo by far the best, most feature filled and stable forum software out there. It costs money, but then quality does (Huckerby...) Sort it out and give us a forum to be proud of (and with lots of smilies so we can celebrate in style!) Check out RSC forums (sim racing community I spend faaar too much time in) and feel the quality of VB: http://forum.racesimcentral.com/forum.php? Herb
  16. I''d like to think we''ve got a decent chance of staying up. As already mentioned, financially the club is in a better position than most similar sized clubs in the prem. We''ve got Nigel Worthington, a great team spirit, good discipline at the club, and a lovely new stand filled with supporters, not to mention some damn good players. Think of the difference 25,000 full houses every week will make to the atmosphere - I think we averaged 17,000 in our last season at the top. Personally I think its about time Southampton went down :) They were always just getting away with it a few years back. Bolton Middlesboro and Fulham look suss to me too. If the supporters get behind the team like they have this season, even if things are going badly on the pitch, it''ll be like having an extra man on the pitch. Its a cliche, but its true, especially when you''re up against it. With support like that, how can we fail? Onwards and upwards, and heres to another 3 points on Saturday. On the ball City! Herb
  17. Adams said last year that if we signed Huckerby we''d go up as champions. His prediction looks pretty good so far. Thats hardly negative, I''ve got a lot of respect for Adams, I read his comments more as constructive criticism. Herb
  18. Wizard, you''re well out of order. Fleck is indeed a City legend, I agree, but if you look at his and Roberts respective records for us then hopefully you''ll realise how silly your statement is. I would place Roberts above Flecky in terms of importance to the club. Iwan scored 20 goals a season 3 years running pretty much. How many other City players since say, 1980 can you name with a similar record. First time around, Fleck was playing in a highly successfull City side while Roberts found himself in the goals at a time when the club was still recovering from the "Chase incident" Iwan Roberts City career record -1997-1998 (33 apps, 7 goals); 1998-1999 (51 apps, 23 goals); 1999-2000 (49 apps, 19 goals); 2000-2001 (50 apps, 18 goals); 2001-2002 (34 apps, 14 goals); 2002-2003 (47 apps, 7 goals); 2003-2004 (35 apps, 6 goals). Total 299 apps, 94 goals. Nuff said. Herb
  19. If you''ve ever heard any of the muppets they get in when Roy is on holiday, you''d be on your knees begging for his return. I swear one of them WAS Alan Partridge. He does a better job than I could manage, and by the sounds of it he does a better job than the rest of the Radio Norfolk crew. Of course he has his faults, but if you listen to Neil Adams too (yes, they''re a commentary team) then I think they give a reasonable picture of whats going on. Do you really give a toss what anyone outside the Norfolk thinks of him? I don''t. I''ve heard commentary from local stations up north and they make Waller seem like John Motson. Be careful what you wish for.... Herb
  20. I don''t get to a lot of games because of work commitments, so I''ve not seen a lot of Svennson first hand. If you cut me I bleed yellow and green though, and I never miss Uncle Roys commentary :o) My brother however is a Barclay lower season ticket holder (for 20 years or something) and he was saying the other day how Svennson reminds him very much of Roberts when he first came to the club. Both had been out of contention at their previous clubs for some time and were, to put it politely, "not the most athletic looking" Now you don''t just get razor-sharp again in half a dozen games. He feels (as I do) that Sven will be an ideal replacement for Roberts in due course. On a slightly different note: 5 goals!! When the hell did we last score 5? Never mind the danger! :o) Herb
  21. Being a motorsport fan, I was really hoping Ralf Firman from Attleborough would be a Norwich fan, but he burst that bubble in an interview... When James Allen or whoever asked him he looked embarressed and mumbled "Er, no" in a slightly dismissive way. Probably an Arsenal fan going on how dull he seems. Sounds too plummy for proper Norfolk, bet hes spent more time in Kensington than Attleborough... :o) I''m sure Martin Brundle has mentioned the Canaries fondly before now and hes from Gayton. Good old Martin Brundle! He was my F1 hero when I was a kid. Herb
  22. What about the Huckerby challenge on their dodgy keeper? 50/50 ball if ever I saw it, but just cos he rolled over like a wuss Darren got booked. If he doesn''t want to be tackled like an outfield player he should stay in his box. Herb
  23. Alan, Robert Fleck probably isn''t a good example. He hardly set the world on fire when he came back to Norwich. Much as we loved him, he didn''t do the business for us second time around. However, in his defence, if I remember correctly that was during the dark period in the mid 90s when we had Big Rob Newman playing up front for most of the season. Wasn''t Fleck signed to try to pacify the faithfull some time after Chase had auctioned Sutton off to the highest bidder? But that was in the days of the fat controller. Things are different now and while I can understand Kentons desire to get a payday (your career really can end tomorrow) he did dump on the club that made him. Heres hoping we stuff the Saints next season with Kenton in the heart of their defence! On the ball Herb
  24. My brothers got a season ticket so I''m hoping he''ll be able to get me a ticket for the Sheffield game. Anyone know when they go on sale? Are they likely to sell out really quickly? If so I''ll take some time off work to make sure I get mine. I don''t get to all that many games these days so I''m eager to sing me heart out for the lads! Herb
  25. If people want to moan in here, providing its constructive and they have an alternate solution to offer its fine. I''m sure most of the players have better things to do than read these forums considering the money they earn. If not they need to get themselves an imagination ;) Getting on the players backs during a match is another thing entirely. The so called fans who were having a go at Henderson on Saturday were bang out of line. Is no one allowed to have a bad game anymore? If you want the team to succeed they need support, not abuse. I''ve seen first hand how a team can be lifted to a higher lvel by the crowd. Get behind the lads! Herb
