Wigan in administration
DraytonBoy replied to ......and Smith must score.'s topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Have I read this right, if they avoid relegation then they'll be docked 12 points (so could then still be relegated), if they end up in the bottom three the points deduction will be carried over to next season and they have to finish 12 points above the relegation places to stay in the Championship? -
lEEDS ARE THROWING IT AWAY AGAIN
DraytonBoy replied to SwindonCanary's topic in Main Discussion - Norwich City
Due to the different histories of the two clubs the importance of being in the top league is more relevant to Leeds than it is to Norwich which to me is a shame. I spent countless afternoon's and evenings watching Norwich in the 70's and 80's when they competed with the best teams in the country, why couldn't that happen again? I'll agree that for years Leeds lacked any ambition Nigel but nothing more.😉 -

I'm not a WACCOE type Leeds fan Nigel, I spent years in the 80's watching drivel until Wilkinson came along and it's taken over a decade for an owner willing to spend real money for us to have what I would call 'ambition' aligned with an understanding of what the club is about. -

What I don't understand is the general acceptance that Norwich will never be able to compete in the PL so the regular up/down is okay. I don't expect Leeds to do much next season if they go up but I'll be pretty pi**ed off if the owners don't invest big time to give them half a chance of survival. Will City fans still support Delia if they don't go straight back up? Off piste, anyone else see 'The Big Match Revisited' from Jan'77 at the weekend which had highlights of Norwich v Leicester, I would have gone to the game and probably stood in the River End? -
One of my favourite films of all time.

I'm old enough to have caught the end of the Revie era which is when I started following them. The hooligan bit is nowhere as bad as it used to be but Leeds suffer from being a magnet to idiots all over the country unfortunately. -
My take on the responses was that Norwich shouldn't and couldn't copy Villa in gambling £100 million+ on survival and I gave an explanation of why I think Villa's gamble failed, that's all. The only way I can see Norwich surviving next time is if they keep hold of the likes of Cantwell and Aarons whilst at the same time adding experienced PL players in key areas.

I'd like to hope that at some point in the future the way Leeds play overshadows everything else about the club. Bielsa isn't a saint by any means but he does get his teams to try and play an attractive style of football. -

Things are so much different to the last time we went up, Leeds will do well just to survive like every other promoted team over the last few years, Sheff Utd are a bit of a fluke but Wilder sets them up to play a certain way and it has worked for large parts of the season, will it work again next season though? -
Villa knew that they had to spend to have a chance of staying up but instead of buying maybe 4/5 proven quality players they spent over a £100 million and brought in nine new faces plus Mings and El Ghazi who were already there on loan, most of the buys were simply not good enough for the PL so they've struggled.

Norwich have to do something different should they get promoted next season, relying on the youth system to produce coupled with a low budget recruitment policy hasn't worked this year so why would it in two years time? People have pointed to Villa and Fulham as examples of big spending failures but to me that just says 'poor quality spending'.

They do, I thought this thread was about hoping Leeds would fall apart again though Frank.😀 -

Takes the pressure off a bit, need to beat Luton on Tuesday to create some momentum. Fulham seem to be falling apart and Mitrovic could well miss a few games now. -

I'd settle for a point today to keep Fulham seven behind but am not that confident, very surprised with W Brom not even scoring in their last two games and they've got a difficult finish including Fulham at home, certainly not over by any means. -
There are undoubtedly dozens of wealthy individuals/companies that want to invest in football clubs across Europe with the PL seen as the league to buy into because of it's global exposure so you'd think that Norwich would be on the radar with someone even if they go down. Is it not therefore fair to speculate that Delia and co have put the word out that they no intention of selling any time soon?

After yesterday's results I'd settle for a couple of draws from Cardiff and Fulham which would leave us needing four wins from the last seven as a maximum given that Fulham and Brentford have still got W Brom to play.
