  1. I''m also pleased he had a good season, he has been here a while and although I''ve never been a fan he''s been a servant to the club and has helped us gain promotion back to the Championship
  2. Exactly, I''m trying to make a point to all of those that think that Doc not getting a new contract and being released is a bad decision by the club, ie Lambert!
  3. All this fuss about the Doc not getting a new contract raises one simple question. Would you rather have Lambert as manager making decisions that he thinks is right or the Doc back in the side Lambert wins every day of the week for me!
  4. Who knows, he was on the bus so I suspect he has some sort of future. No Cureton or Wiggins so if no Wiggins that would suggest he''s on his way as he played no part of the season, neither did Tudor Pole but he was still part of the squad on the bus. He looked good at Swansea, why can''t he do the job here, he has the same problem that Gill has and that''s the form of Rusty, Korey. Hughes, Lappin has been consistent so he''s not had a look in, seemingly he did well enough at Yeovil.
  5. Absolutely true Freddy, Diego Forlan is a classic example of different players and managers, pants at Manure but consistently one of the top scorers in Spanish football. Just look at Chris Martin, Roeder thought he was a troublemaker (not suggesting he''s an angel) but boy can that boy score goals and Lambert has seen that or has he just got the best from him. The thing with Doc, he wasn''t in favour, got back in due to injury, stayed in due to injuries and an improvement in form or simply impressing in training and ended up having a good season but contrary to what some believe, he was poor last year and cost us a lot of silly goals, Marshall looked crap last year because he had no confidence of what was in front of him, purely my opnion of course!!
  6. Bit strong Boyo, he''s not complete and utter rubbish as he did a job this year in League 1, but I do agree with you that he wasn''t very good in the Championship when we were there last year and that is the point of all of this. I will still come back to the point made before and that is that if Lambert thought he was good enough, he would still be here, end of really!
  7. It''s funny how everyone has different opinions about what happens, guess thats what makes life so much fun eh! Yes Doc was better this year, but he only got back into the team due to injuries and lets be honest, none of the other central defenders have really been fully fit since, Askou had his problems, Whitbread has been injured and so has Spillane, so he''s hardly kept players out of the team has he, none of the potential replacements were fit. Now I''m not saying that he was only in because of this but who''s to know whether he would have ever got back in had the others not been injured for long periods. But I will reiterate, he had a better year than last year and looked comfortable in League 1. But what we don''t see is what Lambert sees in training day in day out and he obviously doesn''t feel that the Doc is up to the standard that he wants in the Championship
  8. Nelson will be back up, the release of the Doc will for certain mean a replacement or 2 coming in with either experience at either Championship level or some talent that no-one is aware of, League 1, foreign import. I quite liked Leon Legge at Brentford, young, athletic and built like a tank.
  9. Yes I do think that Askou is a better player than Doc, if Lambert honestly thought that Doc was better than Askou or Nelson or Whitbread he would have kept him would he not??? Unless of course there is some sort of suggestion that Lambert doesn''t know what he is doing or he made the decision last night whilst he was drunk!?!? Doc has the same ball week in week out, the diagonal ball out to the left wing, if we can recognise it week in week out then every football manager will do! As for Doc last year, I used to be a Doc basher, not because I disliked him as a person but because he would give needless freekicks away on the edge of our area because he spent more time with him arms round defenders when he should have been doing what a centre half should do and that''s get his head on it. I''m actually quite suprised he has been released as this year he has done that less and less, maybe the influence of Culverhouse, who knows and I actually think that had he not been at the end of his contract would he have been released!
  10. Surely he deserves to celebrate as much as the rest of the squad, I was there and it looked to me like he was just enjoying himself and having fun, lets face it the SQUAD as it''s a squad game have gone through a lot this year, so to actually get promoted and be champions is worth celebrating. Do any of the fans who were there who were a bit worse fo wear get slated for celebrating too much, of course not! And as for him being an average league 2 player, how would we know, he has been in a lot of the squads this year but not had much of a chance to shine as Rusty and Korey have been immense this year and when they hadn''t it was usually Hughes who replaced one as he''s a forward thinking midfield player, funny how he usually came on when we needed to get forward, how many games have we had to shut out this year which is his game.
  11. Never really been a massive Doc fan, but will admit that he has been better this year after being left out when Lambert arrived. However, lets put a little bit of reality around this, Doc is out of contract, the last time he was out of contract he demanded a wage in excess of what he was worth, he was still given a bladey good contract, how do I know this, well unlike some who claim to have inside knowledge, I did have connections within the coaching staff pre-Lambert. So, with him being on a lot of money, out of contract and no doubt wanting something similar, I think that there are players out there who we could get who will do a better job for less money. We have to trust Lambert and don''t be suprised if he already has someone lined up. I posted the other day that Whitbread and Askou could well be our starting pair, people have very short memories when it comes to players, before getting injured Askou was consistent and looked solid and comfortable on the ball, yes he was poor against Carlisle but to be fair to him he hadn''t played much and if you watch the replay you will see that he got majorly exposed by a certain player being too far up the field who''s man then scored, that player was Doc. Lets not also forget that last year Doc was awful, yes a lot of players were but this guy was an international and played in the Prem blah, blah, blah. I ask all those that think that this is a stupid decision, when has Doc ever looked like an international or Prem league player since he has been here?? Now I''m not Doc bashing, but I am trying to look at this for what it is, someone whom Lambert is sure cannot cut it in the Championship or the Doc has asked for a big contract that he is not worth, we will never know the answer, but lets move on and trust Lambert as I can''t think of much that he has got wrong since he has been here!
  12. Don''t understand all of this about RUM, he has been solid for most of the season, nicely likened to Eddy. How many times has Spillane actually played at Right Back, I remember a couple of games before he went to Luton and less than half a dozen this season, surely not enough to be put up on a pedestal! I don''t think is that far off Drury as far as consistency is concerned, again someone who put on a pedestal, don''t get me wrong I think he''s a great defender but not great as getting crosses in, yeah he supports the attack but I have this thing with Drury whereby it really bugs me that he spends so much time concentrating on crossing it properly he forgets to get his head up to see who has made what run, therefore most of his crosses sale over the forwards heads!!!
  13. I personally wouldn''t be suprised if we started with Askou ans Whitbread next season! Askou was consistent and solid before getting injured and Whitbread has a bit of quality about him. Yes Askou wasn''t at his best yesterday but he got exposed badly for the first yesterday and was left with a forward running at him and one making a run beside who had left the Doc in his wake ie 2 on 1 at pace which is never easy to defend. And no not necessarily blaming the Doc but just suggesting that I''m not really sure what else Askou could do in that situation, we got exposed as a defence and paid the price!
  14. I did hear the funniest thing yesterday from the lady that sat in front of me taking to her mother! They were discussing how disinterested the players looked (fair point) but then finished it off with the comment that Chris Martin doesn''t make any effort during a game as he wants to save his energy for scoring in the last minute! Now this isn''t about women and football as the man the other side agreed but really, can a player be that good or confident that they save all their energy for the last minute of the game or would a certain Mr Lambert not hail him off for being. Lazy little so and so! Classic......
  15. Looked pap in the warm up? Does that really count in what sort of ability a player has, seriously?
  16. Bearing in mind how we''ll likely have to get a few players for the squad next year that are hungry lower league players how about this guy? He played yesterday for Carlisle wearing 28, he was the tall centre forward who scored their first one. He was a handful all game, physical, had a bit of pace and good touch for a big guy!
  17. Sorry, I was more referring to keeping the loanees, ie Rose and Elliott. Agree though, when they don''t fight the fight because their real club is elsewhere then I don''t want too many of them. Not something I think can be said about this years loanees as I think they have all showed commitment
  18. Why is it patronising? The Carlisle fans have been commended for coming down to Norwich for a nothing game that will be a party for us. Does the post not also talk about the fans in a positive way, ie locals supporting local clubs!
  19. So on that basis he will now sign for Peterborough with a transfer of £1m plus Joe Lewis, before he goes back on the deal to sign for Man City in a swap for Craig Bellamy
  20. Absolutely. Oli Johnson, at Stockport who were clearly going down months ago, seen by Lambert as a future star, Stockport fans view is a waste of space and a lazy b''stard My personal view on our loanees is that I think they could all do a job and I think pace is hard to play in any league and Elliott seems to have a bucketload, and you don''t get international caps if you don''t have some sort of talent!?!? - Although having said that I can actually think of a few that have appeared in England shirts and you have to wonder how, roll in Carlton Palmer............
  21. Read a lot but don''t post much but thought I would comment on some interesting stuff on here....... If there is one thing certain about life then it''s that no two men (women) are the same and that''s the same with opinions. What made me type this is the debates that everyone has about players that we are linked with and whether we should consider because they have been released, ie Stephen Elliott or playing for a team that has been relegated, ie Tommy Spurr. Link this into the other post about Dickson Etuhu and you can also see that some people thought he was good here and others not, look at him now, Europa Final and probably the biggest game of his life (apart from scoring against the Scum of course.......) So, the point of my post is this, just because a player has not performed at a club does not make them a bad player, there can be a number of reasons why it doesn''t work for them and because of this I think that any payer who has been deemed good enough for Premiership/Championship should be considered. Couple of simple examples to prove a point......Darren Huckerby, couldn''t get a look in at Man City when they were poor yet he comes he and arguably the most high profile and loved player in recent years, and in the same way Diego Forlan, couldn''t hit a cow''s ass with someone elses banjo let alone his, but since he left he has been consistently one of the top scores in Spain. Having said all of that, everyone is entitled to their opinion and I for one am fascinated to read them!
  22. Either Martin for me. Some of the best players of the game are those that get on with their job without any fuss, yes Russell Martin has had a couple of off games, but he''s not the only one and most of those mentioned so far have also had a couple of stinkers, including Drury. Chris Martin for me has been immense this season, think about what he went through last year with Roeder, farmed out to Luton without even being given a chance with no possibility of a recall (as Gunn tried). This season he has worked his socks off and yes he also had a couple of stinkers but if you actually looked at him during those games he looked physically tired, about the point when Lambert rested him! My final nomination would be Lappin, week in, week out he does the stuff that gets no plaudits, gets his foot in, gets the ball down and looks to play, allowing the likes of Wes and Korey to do what they do best
  23. I remember seeing Leon Clarke when we played at Hillsborough last season and we went from being comfortable at half time to getting humiliated by their change in tactic, that being to knock it long to Leon Clarke, neither of the Central Defenders could do anything to stop him on that day! Players play differently under different managers and at different clubs, we need some muscle up front to help out Holty and I think he could do a job if Lambert can get the best from him. The 2 I would like from Sheff Wed would be Tommy Spurr, big for a full back and Darren Potter
  24. Been reading lots of posts on here already about players that we are supposed to be interested in already so quick question for those that care enough to reply! Would you: a) like to see Lambert getting some Talented League 1 players and trust him to make them into something special b) get in some players with experience who have been released by championship clubs or c) a mixture of both I think we should go for c. If we can pick up a few players that we have played against this season who are early 20''s with talent but also believe that we need some experience. Although I don''t think that we actually need that much if you think about the players we already have with experience like the Doc and Russell. Although clearly that plan might go right out of the window if both of them leave on a Free Transfer because they don''t get offered a new contract (unlikely after the year they have had though!)
