  1. I reckon gerken would have come here too. One of my colleagues went to school with him and is still a good friend of his, he nearly (and wanted to) join Oldham, but they got cold feet and Bristol city were the only other team interested at the time. I imagine being first choice here would have been more appealing.
  2. I think from what mcnally has said, I.e. that Gunn was fired on the basis of the last seven months and not just one result, that mcnally felt gunn should never have been in charge. Problem being, when he arrived gunn had just been given a new deal so his hands were well and truly tied. It is this that irritates me more than anything else.
  3. I went to the game tonight and as everyone has said, it was bad. However, it wasn''t all bad. Until they scored we looked the more dangerous, we so easily could have had the lead were it not for some bad luck and bad finishing (same old story). For me though, it''s now time to draw a line under the first 3 (league) games and look at where we go from here. Top of the priority list for me is organisation. Say what you like about both worthington and roeder (at least the first 4 months) however the one thing they made sure of was that we were well organised and everyone knew their roles. I don''t think any of the teams played so far have a better group of players, (maybe col u, we''ll see) but for sure all their players knew what their role was and what the overall tactics and strategy for winning was. A good way to illustrate the point is hoolahan, he didn''t look great today and I''ve heard others suggesting lappin over hoolahan, to me that''s ridiculous and the problem is actually that the rest of the team don''t know how to use him. I''m confident organisation will be enough to get us in the top half. Next: now there''s purpose we need urgency and determination. Tudur-jones looks to be a player with great potential, but he drifts in and out of the game in etuthu-esque fashion, TJ is a better footballer than Gary holt, but holt had unbelievable drive and desire. I''ve used TJ as an example but I think it applies across the board, far too many times we''re second to the second ball and also too often players aren''t closed down quickly enough or an extra yard of space is given. Next comes an outlet: urgency and organisation is no good without an outlet. Whaley and mcdonald may provide this (although the jury is out) with increased confidence, but with hoolahan on the left and Spillane and drury at full back I don''t think this is enough. Semi appears to not be up to it, therefore I think a new right back is a necessity, and furthermore will give us the necessary flexibility at centre back. Askou and doc need competition which Spillane could provide were he not nailed down in the right back slot, nelson isn''t up to it. The things I''ve listed above are achievable without a major overhaul of the squad, I really don''t think we''re too far away players wise. Roeder achieved a good deal of what I''ve set out above in his first few months so it is possible. Lambert has a tough task ahead of him, but I believe in him, in my mind a good manager will do the things I''ve noted above (the first two points anyway) as a matter of course. It''s been as depressing a two weeks as I can remember, but the early dismissal of gunn has given me a glimmer of hope, there''s a little positivity in this canary yet! On the ball city! And good luck mr lambert, you''ll need it!
  4. First appointment since worthington which has a feel of permanence about it, although of course only time will tell.
  5. Good. Young manager, good record with no cash, no massive ego (I believe) despite being an excellent player himself. The key to this season will be being organised and I believe lambert will give us this, gunn never would have.
  6. Gunn and mcnally don''t discuss things until they''re all done which suggests he could be in the having a medical category. However, gunns comments don''t sound positive to me. My guess is he''s joining palace.
  7. Also a better indication of our line-up I hope. Time to stop the chopping and changing, at least for the first 55 mins or so I think.
  8. Agreed....I''d stick Maric as the most important of those closely followed by Askou as I''m not entirely convinced by a Nelson/Doc partnership.

  10. Yeah maybe right. It seems it''s not a definite yes or a definite no. Wait and see yet again....
  11. Er.... I don''t care about multiple posts or posts in the wrong place and I''m certainly not board police haha! My post was merely pointing to the fact that if you''re not going to check to see if it''s a duplicate post you should strap on a pair, man up and say that. No need for lame excuses just say you haven''t looked, no one cares and if they do then that''s up to them.
  12. Did you look? It''s not far down the page, the last post was half ten last night.
  13. This was discussed at length yesterday. Apparently his agent can''t be contacted. I can''t see gunns response meaning it was a no, but it''s tricky to read into these things.
  14. I really hope so. I think he could give us the extra we need to push ourselves from top 6 potentials to automatic promotion hopefuls. I don''t see how gunns statement can be bad news, it can''t be dead in the water IMO.
  15. I agree, still think it''s a bit odd. He glossed over the whole thing a little bit.
  16. As I''m sure you''re aware andy, those bands have to be split by the number of associates the company has, so the club would almost certainly pay at a rate of 28% at a lot lower proft chargeable to corporation tax than £1.5m
  17. Potentially although that would be as part of the company''s corporation tax calculation. There would be no immediate tax sufferred. Based on the company''s accounting profit or loss a company then has to make various tax adjustments and then suffers tax on that at a rate of 28% as a rule, potentially less depending on the size of the business. A player shouldn''t be a chargeable gains asset (although there could be specific rules on their contracts of which I''m unaware) in which case the amount that is taxed would be the amount which goes through the p&l account. I''m jot sure how the p&l element would be calculated as I imagine accounting for football clubs must be quite quirky! I hope that helps. In short; no vat, no stamp tax, corporation tax based on profit recognised in p&l (subject to specific computational provisions) as we''re loss making the profit on player sales shouldn''t result in a tax charge.
  18. Just because gunn was expecting to talk to maric (or his rep) today doesn''t mean that all i''s will be dotted and t''s crossed today as well. These things take a bit of time. I wouldn''t expect to hear anything until Monday at the earliest unless he said no today in which case possibly tomorrow.
  19. Sometimes I think people on here are devoid of a sense of humour
  20. I can''t see Maric coming to us now, it would just be too good to be true. You never know though....
  21. or he only gets to speak to people who aren''t in charge of the full facts.
