  1. Couldnt agree more, it was without doubt his best performance of the season so far (although to my opinion still doesnt warrant a place in this team) I dont think he knew where he should be, I would much rather play Helveg as part of the diamond perhaps moving Safri further forward.
  2. I apologise if im rehashing here, I haven''t managed to read all the messages posted this weekend. Sometimes I hate to be proved right, once again we were toothless although I would suggest that using the diamond formation at home is way too conservative unless somebody thinks we can stay up drawing 30 games. I would be happy to see us play the diamond formation at Anfield if it works as well as it did against Spurs we should at least hold our own. I am still not convinced with Holts performances and was surprised that some people were raving about him after Saturday. I still don''t think he did enough to deserve his place, Safri on the other hand was much more impressive. I like the idea of Francis and Safri in Midfield in a 4-4-2. At home we must be more adventurous as I have said before im not surprised we are not scoring goals we are relying on a player who is much more creator than poacher to get our goals and the fact that there is nobody in front of him to provide for is probably reducing the number of goals he provides by 50% (remember all those assists last season ?) We also need to know what other squad members could add to the team so I would play a completely different team tomorrow and hopefully give Worthy some headaches if not for Liverpool certainly for Portsmouth. my suggestion would be: Ward Helveg Charlton Fleming Drury Jonson Safri Francis Brennan Svennson Mckenzie Bench Jarvis , Henderson, Mcveigh, Shackell , Gallagher My only real reservation with this team would be the fact that resting Huckerby would mean that we might not find a formation that would necessarily work with him in the team. My reasoning as follows. Ward: lets see what might happen in January if the big guns come calling Helveg: Lets see if he has managed to find his feet with the pace of the Premiership and see if he offers more going forward than Edworthy if we play the diamond. Jonson: Needs more time on the pitch and a bit of confidence Safri: Still needs more time in the team and would like to see him in a traditional 4-4-2 to see how he copes. Brennan: The forgotten man, see what he''s made of and again perhaps consider him at the back when playing the Diamond Svennson: Give him another chance, He has seen that Doc play he knows what he has to with his workrate, lets see if he is up to the challenge (on his day he has more attacking flair than the Doc) McKenzie: give him a start and see if he really is the answer, if not Bring Jarvis/Henderson or Mcveigh on to play upfront. Next Saturday Green Edworthy Charlton Fleming Drury (Our Defence have been magnificent in every game this season)              Helveg   Safri               Francis           Huckerby   Doherty        Mcveigh Ok im not a big Bentley fan, still waiting for him to prove me wrong and will be over the moon when he does (that miss on saturday was awful) I think Paul Mcveigh is probably the most natural finisher at the moment , Mckenzie seems a bit nervous as he has missed his chances so far he is getting more tense with every game.   Ok its a bold formation, what does everyone think ?
  3. Sounds like a good idea ! See my other post re who would you have on the bench, missed yours oops ! maybe on Saturday bring him on with 15 mins to go.
  4. Ok so we all have views about who should be playing upfront or in midfield but who would you like to see on the bench. Who do you think might on his day be worth one last throw of the dice? I''m surprised that we are tending to have Svennson on the bench although he can have good and bad days and on a good one can turn a game I cannot imagine him being able to settle and find his range in ten or 15 minutes. Likewise Leon when he has come on has managed to be in the right place for a number of chances but so far failed to put one away. How about Hendo and Jarvis or even Mulryne ? Paul Mcveigh upfront ? he was fantastic in this position a couple of years ago and realistically only pushed out onto the right because we couldn''t find anyone else to do it consistently. He was clinical with his strike against Man U. I suppose what I''m saying is I hope Worthy is keeping his eyes open in training and keeping his options open. It can be a bit dull when the substitutions are repeated week in week out even if they have failed to have an impact on the game. Cant wait till Sat. OTBC
  5. As I said I have no problem not playing a target man if we were to have ball playing genius in midfield, unfortunately we dont.
  6. Whilst I would never put forward the idea of route one football (we should leave that to the likes of WBA) I really don''t think some people have a grip on what would happen if we would play without one. The key for a target man is to hold the ball up and distribute, and whilst I was never a huge Iwan fan (although have to admit he was a great servant to the club) he fulfilled this role superbly. Ok so lets imagine we play without one which would be possible if we had Ian Crook in central midfield or perhaps Scott Parker, but lets get real these kind of players are even more difficult to find than good target men. So once again I say move Hucks left and give Mckenzie a chance with doc upfront !
  7. At last ! Spread the word, thought I''d been talking to myself since the begining of the season. Yes we are too reliant on Huckerby but that is because he is playing upfront whilst actually dropping deep onto the left (where he is most effective) but that means there is nobody infront of him to play the ball too. Lets just try for once the formation that served us so well last year, as posted elsewhere. Green Edworthy Charlton Fleming Drury Jonson (or Mcveigh) Safri (or Helveg) Francis Huckerby Doc McKenzie If you wanted to be more defensive you could play Helveg in front of Edworthy to cover the defending Huckerby wont do, I think Safri is worth another try in the Centre whilst he lost lots of ball his pass over the top to Huckerby was without doubt the best pass from midfield. I would be happy with either Jonson or Mcveigh (something tells me Jonson is going to click soon given the chance) Bentley Isnt enough of a team player for me, a spell on the bench may focus his mind to play the easy ball rather than just looking for the 25 yarder every time. I think McKenzie needs 90 minutes, he has had chances in every single game this season. With more confidence and a better touch he should surely have scored at least 2 by now (and that probably would have equated to 4 more points) so he needs the chance to proove if he can do it or not.
  8. Right on ! I agree we cannot survive on sentiment worthy has proved already that he understands this letting Malky go and dropping Helveg so I trust he will not play Bentley if he agrees with me that he is not coming up with the goods. (whether he does we will have to wait and see) Any idea why Gary holt hasn''t been rested yet ?
  9. I wasn''t up at 2am this morning ! it seemed to take ages to get anything posted late last night !
  10. Team Green Edworthy Charlton Fleming Drury Jonson Safri Francis Huckerby Doherty Mckenzie   2-0 Jonson and McKenzie There hows positive for ya !
  11. Ok so the whispers of Robs move to Arsenal doesn''t seem to be going away and the way his form is going at the moment he has got to be worth this sort of money, he is well tied up on contract so anybody wanting to take him better think big money especially if it were before the end of the season (although I would like him to see us safe in the prem before leaving us) The fact that we have signed 2 international keepers to go along with the great white hope Joe Lewis suggests that we will not be able to stand in Robert''s way forever so we don''t have to worry too much. So 6 million pounds, we have been prudent so far but still need a striker, hopefully if we keep on in the same way we have started we may be able to sign a player who can just give us the little push we need. Where does your money go ? Come home Mr Sutton your time is up ! (only 2 games for Celtic so far this season!)
  12. I have to agree (as I have said before) He does have a tendancy to go for the showboat rather than playing it simple and therefore loses the ball more than he should and also creates little end product. Think he could do with a word from Worthy, needs to be more of a team player otherwise Mcveigh or Jonson would be a better option.
  13. I guess your answers sort of date you somewhat, Kevin Drinkell and Mark Robins ( I was at the Arsenal game when he made his bebut as a second half sub and scored the two goals to beat them 4-2 surely one of the greatest game in canary history)
  14. Repost again as suggestedFirstly I just noticed that whilst the clubs centenary past a couple of years ago apparently OTBC will be 100 years young next year. I know that people are forever taking the mick but I for one am very proud of it (although generally my voice gives way half way through "Kick it off") and was thinking we should surely mark the occasion with the release of a celebrity version (no updating though please, lets be true to the tune at least) it makes the hairs stand up on the back of your neck when you sing it ! Any thoughts ? On a lighter not my favourite suggestion for the hucks song was the one doing the rounds at christmas, I wish I had thought of it. To the tune of "Let it Be" When I find myself in times of trouble mother Delia comes to me, Speaking words of wisdom - Huckerby,
  15. Ok so maybe I''m being picky but is there any way the pinned posts can be fixed at the bottom of the list so we can see the newest topics when we log on rather than having to scan down ? Just a thought.

  17. Well it is a shame and although I would be the first to remember that if there was a week link in last years team it would have been Malky but I cannot imagine that given the circumstances Worthy would want to offload him without additional cover if he was committed to the cause (maybe he''s been reading my posts !) Obviously he understands its a squad game and I hoped he would want to play in the premiership and fight for his place, but maybe not. So now we are down to three specialist centre halves one of which has only played a couple of games at 1st division level and another is playing up front ! Thank goodness Charlton is so versatile. Well I hope it doesn''t happen I personally think that Malky being part of our squad this season suits all concerned. Fight for your place Malky it might be your only shot at the premiership what harm will one season do ?
  18. We need to start picking up points and this is as good a place as any. Confidence will start to dissapear. Points make Prizes !
  19. No I''m not on holiday working too hard as always, check the MB every now and again sometimes it makes my blood boil and I have to rant. I can type pretty quick though ! Yeah you got the idea of the cookbook right Gary Nevilles Lancashire Hotpot
  20. This is just an idea that has been rattling around in my head for some time. Why doesn''t Delia put together a football cookbook, Appeal to her cookery fans and footie fans, could be released directly by the club with various football related recipes, or indeed meals to prepare between getting in from work at 6.15 and having to go to the match at 7pm. Just imagine if every footy fan bought the book for his mum or wife $$$$$ theres that new striker paid for ! OTBC
  21. Im sure the stewards did wear white coats, it was amazing how quickly the Barclay would empty out in those days. takes forever to get out of the ground these days.
  22. Ok I did feel particularly negative today but I think it would some pretty strong mind altering drugs to see things from your point of view. Im sorry if I came accross a little offensive I really dont mean to we are all in it together I just cannot see some of the logic. Yes West Brom came back up after being relegated so it is possible. Yes we are much more financially stable than we were last season. These are undisputable facts as are those detailed below. Norwich City 9 years (nine) since we last won promotion. Sides relegated from the premiership in recent seasons currently in the old division 2 Bradford, Barnsley, Wimbledon, Sheffield Wednesday. Clubs who have spent a large amount of time in the top flight or been recently relegated struggling to get out of "the championship" Notts Forest, Sunderland, West Ham, Leeds, Leicester, Coventry. The good news is that the Championship is a cracking league, much more competitive than the premiership will ever be again so if relegated we can look forward to thrills and spills a plenty but we cannot look forward to a high likelyhood of promotion again. The teams that were relegated last season were stripped of any players wanted by other premiership clubs, in general at poor prices. We have seen in the past we may not "need" to sell players but if the player wants to leave there is nothing we will be able to do about it. I do not doubt the board has our best interests at heart and will do as much as they can to ensure we survive I just personally think that the task of getting out of the championship will be much tougher than people think, after all we really didn''t get close for almost 10 years. I think the odds may be better for us to stay up than get promoted again next season. I know the club has been around for over 100 years I have been going to Carrow Rd since the early 70''s we spent almost all of the next 2 decades in the top flight. Ironically as I have been bleating so hard at our lack of effort in staying up I have to admit it actually wouldn''t have bothered me if we hadn''t managed to get promoted for another 10 years, if ever. I enjoyed the first division it was exciting and competitive and you could never be sure who would win any game. The only thing that fills me with dread is the thought of going through a whole season not competing, just waiting for relegation like Wolves. I presume you think England are in with a damn fine chance to win the next world cup do you ? Wake up and smell the coffee. I hope we hammer Spurs or I might get really depressed !
