  1. In truth I think most people''s expectation was that we  would not be able to stay up this year - and their hope was that we would. It is looking ever more likely that this year will be a learning experience and a bit of a cash generator. Even if we retain most of the squad, assuming relegation or survival, there will be quite a bit of rebuilding next year due to age of some the current players. The crucial thing will be to retain the key players - I will leave you all to decide who they may be - no matter which league we are in next year.
  2. Tim SherwoodTim Sherwoodand er um........Tim Sherwood
  3. I prefer your original post on the thread, Wiz Bellamy could be more trouble than he is worth
  4. Dave Angel - Check out Bellamy''s record - he was a pain at Coventry where he made statements that he wouldn''t do this and he wouldn''t do that; he has been a pain at Newcastle over a considerable period of time (Rooney/Souness); he has been convicted due to his behaviour whilst in Cardiff AND when he was at Norwich the other players did not like him because of his attitude. On top of that he has a history of injury.
  5. £40k a week for an overblown ego who is also prone to injury - it would be bad move. If we have that sort of money still available it has to be central defender first and then possibly a "quality" midfielder to support Hucks, Holt, Dammo and Jonson.
  6. Bellamy is a pain in the jacksy and not worth the trouble.  He wasn''t particularly liked by the other players when he was our player - thats why they locked him on the toilet on the team coach a couple of times
  7. I think it is true to say that we have scored more points whilst Holt is on the pitch than we have when he wasn''t - and that is on top of his commitment and bravery
  8. YC - my post does not say that Malky should not have been transferred out and that he should even now be playing for us.  What it says is that we miss his leadership, his marshalling of the defence and his vital goals and that we need to sign someone to replace these attributes. At times our defence is a shambles and we need the type of player who helps to hold it together - the "manager on the pitch".  Much as I like Flem he does not bring the required attributes to the party. I thought we started to look a reasonable team on Saturday other than we continue to leak soft goals.  Ashton without doubt has strengthened the attack and gives us some options up front. Despite all his "knockers" Holt brought cohesion to the midfield - the fact is we have gained more points with Holt on the pitch than with him off the pitch. With Dammo and Holt in the middle, Hucks on the left and Jonson/A N Other on the right the midfield looks sound.  Ashton and McKenzie up front could well work. That leaves the defence which needs to stop leaking soft goals, a Malky "type" player would help.
  9. Despite the euphoria of snatching a point on Saturday we should not lose sight of the fact that we now have the worst goals against in the Premiership Last season we had one of, if not the best, defensive record in our Division and as a consequence we were promoted as Champions. I say as a consequence as all good teams are built from the back. The fact is we have not replaced Malky''s marshalling of the defence, or indeed his overall leadership and even his vital goals. If we sign any one before the window closes I would earnestly suggest that we go for a commanding central defender who can help us stop leaking goals. A full back who doesn''t spend his time pulling his socks up at the very time an opposing corner was taken would also help - especially as his total lack of concentration meant that the corner resulted in a goal going in under his boot If we end the season with the worst goals against you can be sure we will be relegated.
  10. Our little group in the Upper Barclay all agree that "Coops" would have been a good signing.
  11. I have had my doubts from time to time about Mr W.  Some of his "man management" has left me bemused, some of his tactics have left me confused and some of his transfers in and out have left me just plain p*ssed off   However, it has to be said that the Club is in far better shape now than before he took over and Worthy has to have played a part in that.  He also seems to have the ability to persuade the Board to do what the majority of supporters want on the big issues - Hucks and Ashton - and have the ability to persuade players to join us. Couple that with the fact that he has took us from the depths of the Fizzy to the depths of the Premiership , I would say that we should keep him (if we can) even if we do get relegated this year. At the end of the day, steady progress and stability has to be good thing.
  12. Steve Sidwell at Reading is just about the outstanding midfield player in the Fizzy League, and he is still young...make a great partner for Dammo
  13. Malcolm Christie is fit again after a long term injury........????????
  14. I have a good friend who supports West Ham whilst his son supports Norwich.  Accordingly he attends both grounds on a regular basis.  He coaches junior teams and has been involved with "motivation" courses for both Arsenal and Liverpool, so I am always interested in his views. In his opinion Harewood would not cut it in the Premiership as he has a similar problem to Leon....his first touch
  15. I clearly watch differrent games to some of the posters....Hucks is still the only truly class player we have.  I would suggest he is the first outfield name down on Worthy''s team sheet each and every week.
  16. Mmmmm....a poster who types strange posts in bold type...now who does that remind me of?
  17. Ho hum, Wiz Now put up a post about any others players that we might fancy will definetly not be coming, oh and round off with the fact that I will definetly not being winning the lottery
  18. I think the jury is still out on Helvig - and quite probably it won''t be guilty verdict. As for Jonson he has been getting better each and every game.  If he continues to improve at the rate he has over the last 3 or 4 games he could turn out to be a major, major, influence on our season. His grit and determination on Monday were exemplarary and he is now beginning to show more quality - certainly he now looks like he "belongs"
  19. According to various papers and web sites it would appear that Ashton would be available for just over £2 million on the basis that a £2 million bid from Spurs has for the moment been refused. Most people would agree that our most urgent need is a person who can score goals. Ashton has a consistent goal scoring record over the past couple of seasons and his still young - 21/22 years old? That being so, for the sake of an extra £1 million over our so called budget of £1.2 million we must push the boat out and make a serious offer before he goes elsewhere.  (The extra £1 million would come from just a couple of Sky matches over and above our guaranteed minumum number of matches so I don''t see why funding is such a problem.) Equally importantly, should the worse come to the worse and we did get relegated then Ashton has shown that he can score goals in the division that we would need to get out of as quickly as possible. We have a golden opportunity that we need to grasp before it evaporates....we did it last year with Hucks and we need to do it this year, right here right now, with Ashton
  20. In which case we have to invest more than a paltry £1.2 million
  21. If we have to part with a player then McVeigh rather than Mullers - maybe Jarvis and Hendo as loan carrots?
  22. Indeed, Happy New Year every one - have a good one tonight whatever you are doing
