Change the midfield.

Recommended Posts

For Newcastle lets freshen things up. After all its a long season and very much a team game. Howson was poor today so I''d be tempted to relegate him to the bench.

Lets get Hoolahan Fox and Bennett back in.

                          Fox

Bennett                              Snodgrass

                       Hoolahan

Holts a much better player with Hoolahan behind him too. Is bennett fit yet? Definately missing his pace at the moment.

I would keep the same midfield but hopefully have Pilkington back in instead of Surman. Everyone moaned about Lambert''s chopping and changing last season and said how good it was that Hughton wouldn''t change the team too much but what does everyone want to do now? Yep, chop and change.
Howson and Surman were superb in the first half but awful second. Would consider playing Tettey an Fox as CMs for the next game
Agreed, although Surman''s stinker was far more obvious that Howsons. He should have been subbed in all honesty. Although Wes could have been a liability due to his size.

Fox  -  Pilkington - Howson -  Snodgrassin no particular formation would be our best midfield i think
Howson and Surman were superb in the first half but awful second.
I have to agree on Surman although I thought Howson was simply mediocre 2nd half. That being said we had too many players on an ''off'' day. Holt looked well off the pace and lost upfront, Snoddy couldn''t get anything going, Johnson was decent defensively but again went off the boil in the 2nd half, and Russ Martin had one of his poorest games (despite the goal-line clearance) and didn''t look comfortable all game.IMHO, we could have done with either Hoolahan and Moro coming on for Holt and Johnson and reverting to the diamond, or playing Hoolahan off Moro and keeping the formation, as there just wasn''t enough of a cutting edge and Wes has the craft to make something happen.

Fox, E Bennett & Hoolahan played in most of the matches last season - we did not lose them all 0-3 in fact the records will show we won most of those matches or gain unlikely points - - so thats your theory out the window !!!

The current midfield have competed well defensively but cannot "touch" Fox, E Bennett & Hoolahan for creativity. If you want to look for a reason why our strikers are not scoring goals its right here - nothing to do with strikers ability. Yes we had 14 shots on target today - all from shots outside the area at their goalkeeper or into blocking defenders - I didn''t see us scoring even if we were given another 90 minutes (as with the last 2 games). We need players that can break down these defences & create chances that have the opposing keeper & defenders taken out of the equation. We have these players in the squad and should play them. The records show that we will not be barrowed over by playing them.

Spot on. After the fulham game the defence were awfull so Hughton changed it, an so far looks like a great move. Yesterday the midfield were awful so Hughton needs to follow suit and change.

Maybe my formation is wrong but I''m convinced that foxy hoolahan & benno must play. One up front and a midfield of;

Fox tettey/BJ

Bennett hoolahan Pilkington

I only saw a centre back once or twice push into the space in midfield alowing the midfielders to push on abit, also the fullbacks didnt overlap very often. We''ll look alot more of a threat when they do this a bit more whoever plays in midfield and upfront. Attacking starts from the back just as defending starts from the front.
