priceyrice 133 Posted June 20, 2012 Title pretty much sums up the question, just wondering what people think Hughton''s involvement has been with these contract deals we have heard about in the last week, such as Martin and Surman, with Drury heading the other way.My inkling is that he has not had much to do with it at all. We know the board spoke with players a few weeks ago and i expect any contract negotiations were started then as these things tend to take a couple of weeks before all parties are agreed and signed. With that being the case, coupled with Hughton not exactly knowing much about our players and being on holiday, i expect his involvement was rather minimal.I expect the Holt situation may be rather different, with hughton obviously knowing how important he is to the team i imagine he has spoken to Holt (i think the article about Surman claimed he hadn''t even spoken to Hughton yet), i don''t expect he knew as much about Surman and Martin.Thoughts? And if Hughton hasn''t been involved, do you think perhaps we are still going on Lambert''s advice regards current players, or perhaps Culverhouse is involved (sorry to bring him up).On a slightly different note, i see that there''s an article about Hughton and his backroom team, surprised there was no mention of Cully or Karsa in there. Bethnal Yellow and Green 2,424 Posted June 20, 2012 I imagine the players were offerred deals before Hughton was appointed, and that if he really wanted to he could cancel the offer. As he is just finding his feet I expect he is more than happy for the deals to be signed - he will realise that the previous manager who has 2 or 3 years with these players knows who''s worth a deal and who isn''t. (As well as taking advice from the board and others at the club)

J 0 Posted June 20, 2012 I doubt it. Its possible this was done some time ago, but even if it wasn''t, I would assume his say would only be minor, especially having only been here ten minutes.
Hackedoff 0 Posted June 20, 2012 Some people still can''t get Hoolahan''s right so good luck with Hughton
Europe_93 50 Posted June 20, 2012 I''m not sure that Hughton will have made the decision, but someone at the Club will believe that these players have a transfer value (http://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/newcastle-united/nufc-news/2012/02/25/newcastle-eye-canaries-duo-martin-and-surman-72703-30402771/) so will have looked to secure their services. Personally I am not convinced that Lambert would have renewed Martin''s contract, but that is my own view.
