Funny reading Morty and Cluck''s exchange here - Morty indicates he may actually agree with Cluck, a reasonably cordial exchange of views then occurs, Cluck sets about with the brainwashing, and the minute it fails and Morty utters the words "i disagree," he (and his dog) get insulted!

And so the world''s of Morty and Cluck, after a brief coming together, drift apart once again, until the next time...!
I always promised myself I wouldn''t get into this debate lol.Nah, I don''t mind Cluck, he makes me chuckle.[:)]

Briefly then... after some fabulous years NCFC hit a difficult period. Robert Chase was hounded out simply due to the ridiculous over expectation of club supporters....and he was not given time to turn things around before Smith''s media campaign cynically smeared him.

Under Delia Smith.... NCFC hit a protracted difficult period. Delia Smith then took us ever further into debt and down to Division Three for the first time in 50 years.  Outcome? She remains the clubs ''saviour''.....

Work it out for yourself.
And even more briefly that''s just a load of old bollox from somebody who could surely do better if they were around at the time.

What happened is a matter of record. What was behind what happened is never going to be so clear. Robert Chase certainly wasn''t the villain he was made out to be by those who wanted him gone. Nothing in life is ever that black and white. But boy did they want him gone. Those 16,000 fans that Nora fondly remembers were in no doubt. Chase Out was done with a passion. For those who weren''t there Norwich fans celebrated his leaving with as much passion as they celebrated our promotion to the Premier nearly 10 years later. To sum it up briefly, just for Nora, - they fooking hated him!

This hate was fuelled by the press and also Roy Blower''s Chase Out Group which later became nCIsA. But to be fair it was also fuelled by Chase himself who tried everything he could to drown out the protesters and had mounted police disperse them from outside the ground. It made the Worthy Out campaign look like a kiddies tea party by comparison. But for those who weren''t around in the 90''s there were comparisons between the two. The press fuelled them both, they both had an organised movement to get them out. Both campaigns had huge support from fans inside and outside the ground over many months. Posters, stickers, banners, marches, mugs and organised protests.

While the first 8 of the Chase years saw great success on the field it was a continuation of the sucess that Sir Arthur had. The last 2 years, before he was chased out, saw the club take the biggest fall I have ever seen in my 45 years as a fan. Off the field the Chase years courted controversy in the boardroom constantly. We even had an EGM at St Andrews Hall as Norfolk businessmen tried to get him out. In the stands we had protests, even when we were having good seasons in the top division fans were protesting against Chase.

I find it hard to believe that some of the posters who claim to have been there over those years ever were. And by been there I mean in the stands at games not in the boardroom. Very few were in the boardroom and I doubt any of them post on here.

But now it''s all water under the bridge. Are the fans these days Smith sycophants? Maybe those who organised and fuelled the Chase and Worthy out protests are best placed to answer this. Why haven''t they organised and fuelled Smith out protests because on past form relegation to the third division would clearly have warranted them.

To start with how about..........

 1. Friendly bankers mean we don''t have to sell off our better players? By the way, how much do you reckon our current top 4 or 5 would fetch in a fire sale?
 2. No hooligans for the Luddites and Socialists to whip up in pursuit of vendettas and petty classism?
 3. We haven''t had a manager good enough and confident enough to walk out on us since Martin O''Neil. Hmm.

( I think I prefer bullet points [;)])
Cluck,

I was under the impression that Barclay''s were putting Chase under pressure to pay off debts. Didn''t they recall the overdraft facility which meant we had to have a fire sale? Was this ever paid off or just renegotiated?

If as has been intimated in this thread and in others that pressure was put on Barclay''s to put pressure on Chase, who would have that kind of influence? I can''t imagine anyone having that kind of influence today, have banks really changed that much in 15 years?

Davo
Barclays saw a quick solution to a problem having had wind of Delia Smith''s interest. Being a hard-nosed bank... Robert Chase was given no time to turn things around and was basically squeezed out by the ''saviour'' in waiting. It''s as simply as that in business... but as it involves a football club emotions get involved.

How are the ignorant supposed to become enlightened if no one will tell them what happened?

I do have one question though for those who might know.

When Chase was forced out we were around £6 million in debt. We are now reportedly £32 million in debt. Once Chase had left did we actually reduce our debt at any point?

I''m one of the young and ignorant. When all this was going on I was only 12 and in those days all I cared about was watching my heroes take to the field the finer points of banks and loans etc. didn''t even register.

Davo
You''ve pretty much already answered your own question Davo. Robert Chase give City fans the greatest period of success the club has ever had  and put quality players on the pitch we could only once have dreamed of before he took the reins. Third in the Premiership.... European football.... not to mention League Cups and FA Cup semi-finals.How can all of that be dismissed without there being a spiteful witch hunt  by the current set-up? Did he, or did he not, sell every single one of our best players and drive Martin Oneil away, hoping rather than have to invest any more that we could wing it and not get relegated?Like it or not, Delia has been plastering over the cracks of financial ineptitude left by Mr Chase.
Who brought those players to the club in the first place? You miss one small point Cluck that made it possible.

ALL the finance from players to cars to....... was on overdraft you know, repayable on demand!

Made pressure very easy to apply.

So there are no retired hooligans in the armed services or police forces? Pull my other leg.

And its ok for a member of the armed forces to suggest that I take drugs or for a former policeman to suggest that I am a numpty on nil grounds. Hmmm.

I await the wrath of the inner circle.

I will answer on Morty''s behalf BBB.No he is not a retired hooligan. He is retired from the armed services having served in what i would describe as a very hot climate until quite recently. If you wish to make light of that and poke fun then carry on numpty.

So there are no retired hooligans in the armed services or police forces? Pull my other leg.

And its ok for a member of the armed forces to suggest that I take drugs or for a former policeman to suggest that I am a numpty on nil grounds. Hmmm.

I await the wrath of the inner circle.
