Arthur Whittle 0 Posted June 2, 2008 Look Gretna are a tiny club with gates of less than 2,000. In scotland you dont get the same amount of tv money as you do down here, so i ask you this. How can you compare a club with 25,000 gates to a club with less than 2,000? How can you compare a club that has sold players for big money and big profit to a club who sell there players for peanuts? How can you compare the Tv money in scotland you recieve to the money you recieve in England?Im all for debate, but comparing us to bloody Gretna is scraping the soding barrel! Dr. Ink 0 Posted June 2, 2008 I don''t think it has been a comparison saying NCFC is like Gretna. Gretna has just been used as a classic example of over stretching yourselves. Buying beyond your means, not achieving your goal, and subsequently suffering big time afterwards. All Doomcaster is warning is that we don''t want to ''do a Gretna'' albeit on a bigger scale. We should stay within the financial limits. It''s just unfortunate that those financial limits seem to be so low.We just have to hope Roeder makes some clever affordable purchases that can at least get us into a play off position. Hoolahan for K£250 would be a great start.

If you spend more than you can generate from your various revenue sources, the postion is unsustainable in the long term unless you have a wealthy benefactor, just like Gretna until he became ill and was no longer involved with the Club. First Wizard 0 Posted June 3, 2008
gretna got to uefa cup last seasonmore than all of us
Donny''s attempt to use Gretna as warning to City is flawed and absurd, for starters, they don''t have the same assets as City to fall back on................and they never did have.Fo every Gretna, theres at least 3 examples of succesful teams. Willmeister 35 Posted June 3, 2008 Its incredibly unrealistic comparing Norwich to Gretna, in fact it would be better to compare gretna to Liverpool or Chelsea. Financial backer comes along then withdraws and leaves them without a paddle. When Abramovich finally leaves chelsea they wilol be in big trouble because they have spent so much and that is what Gretan did.

Faded Jaded Semi Plastic SOB 1,223 Posted June 3, 2008 I find it hard to take that Mr D could possibly compare us to Gretna, but then he did compare getting rid of the likes of Derveld et al with the current putsch being undertaken by GR, so perhaps I should not be surprised. I really wish he would keep his gob shut until there is something positive to report, say the signing of a new player or six......
we8wba 0 Posted June 3, 2008 yes norwich havnt SPLASHED the cash megaly but if you think about it norwich was probably in the top 10 teams for spending money last season easily id prefer to be a well run club financially then flash in the pan and it go tits up

And Mr D would make a few more friends if he didn''t just state the things we do well but also admitted, from time to time, there are things we could do better. If Abramovich withdrew all his funding they would certainly be in a lot of trouble.
