BlyBlyBabes 0 Posted February 23, 2008 From an interview in The Sun. Do you think there are any lessons here for us?ALEX HLEB reckons Arsenal are better off WITHOUT Thierry Henry. Hleb claims the talismanic French striker had all his team-mates playing SCARED. And he believes their startling Premier League form this season is down to one thing — the fact Henry QUIT the Emirates. Hleb, 26, a £7million signing from Stuttgart in 2005, admits last week’s 4-0 FA Cup thrashing by Manchester United and 0-0 Champions League home draw with AC Milan have affected the squad. But he reckons they will quickly bounce back — because Henry is no longer there. Belarus star Hleb said: “I know why we are so good, the explanation is quite simple. “Until last summer, we had just played for Thierry Henry. He was running the show. Whenever I got the ball, I was looking up, ‘where’s Henry?’ “I did not dare to go for goal myself! And if once in a while I dared to pass the ball to someone else, he would shout, ‘hey, I was free!’ When he was on form, we won everything. When he was off form, we lost. “That has all changed. We are not a one-man-band any more. Nobody complains when I risk some dribbling. That’s the reason for our good performances — we were set free. OTBC

[/quote]We''d be better off with Thierry Henry?I get where you''re coming from - but I don''t think Huckerby and Henry can be compared (I''m assuming the Henry figure you''re alluding to is not Gary Doherty?) Houston Canary 0 Posted February 24, 2008 I agree. If it IS about Huckerby, it is comparing apples to oranges. Huckerby is not a big goal scorer, he is a big goal set up-er. If Barnsely had a goal set up-er like Huckerby, we might not be in such a collective good mood here in Canary Nation. Now how many people will respond about the new position I just coined, goal set up-er? All those with no sense of humor, say "aye".
Old Boy 0 Posted February 24, 2008 Yes, there are lessons, though Arsenal did OK with Henry.... I think Roeder has seen his career screwed up twice by Big Time Charlies and he''s being tougher with our own version, and I don''t blame him. The players were out of control at West Ham and Newcastle, and once that attitude grows inside a club it takes a long while to correct - ask Bobby Robson, Souness and Allardyce, as well as Roeder.
