Not PG's Team so Lay Off

Recommended Posts

Please will all the doubters lay off PG and give the guy a chance!!!

It wouldn''t have mattered who the new manager was they would have needed to reconstruct the squad that they inherited, and i actually think PG has done a decent job with what he has inherited. He has managed to get some results with a group of players who simply aren''t good enough.

So far PG has signed Ashdown and Chadwick, both of which i believe will be good signings, and i''m sure we will see numerous player movements in January when he will have a lot more flexbility in the transfer market. It might mean us losing a Saf or a Hucks but if PG is to be judged, criticised and slagged off please let it be with his players, the ones that he wants at the club.

Let''s judge him this time next year, not today, tomorrow or even in May, let''s give him the opportunity to make his own mark. I think he talks a lot of sense and hasn''t been fooled by our recent rather fortunate 1 - 0 wins, he can see there are players who simply aren''t good enough so lets''s give the guy a chance....please

Canarychris,  you state that in January you will see many team movements - can I ask where and how - the current players are all on contracts so nobody can be just ''shipped out'' as it will cost the board too much money in paying up contracts - especiially the amount of players that we need to get rid off (the whole of Midfield for a start) - then it comes to bringing players in - the Norwich board have never been the most generous of persons in handing out money to the manager - I see it that we need at least three or four players to improve this squad to anything like a promotion contender - say at least these four persons cost a million each plus wages - where does anybody think that our manager is going to be given 4 million quid plus - people go on about January and Grant making the team his - I hope they know more than I do then cos I cant see him being given anything near what we need - the Ashton/Green/Mckenzie  money  has probably all been earmarked for other things (long term debt) and the only way I can see any cash being generated is by the sale of Earnshaw which really defeats the object.

I''m getting absolutely sick of this!

Peter Grant is making BASIC mistakes. First and foremost, you do NOT change a winning team! Ever! Was it the players who Worthy signed who decided to bring the Doc in for Dublin yesterday?

I''m not going to go as far as saying Peter Grant is failing and doubt him, because I like the guy and he has 10 times the passion than Worthy, but he''s got to stop with the basic errors, and learn from this.

Well said Chris. Just look how good Chadwick was yesterday, he was by far the best player in Yellow and Green and if Grant can get him for £220k, think who''s in store come January!

I am puzzled as to why people think Chadwick will be a good signing.  I cannot think of a club he excelled (or stayed) at!  And on yesterdays evidence, he is not overly skillful or quick. A lower-championship player IMO.

I personally am not convinced by peter Grant, I do not think he is the man for the job, and have thought it from the start.  Hopefully I will be proved wrong on that.

It is the Board I have lost faith in.  Delia is a glory-hunting good time girl, who has not been talking to the fans for ages.  Remember when we were doing well, you could not get rid of her on your tv or in the press.

The money is nowhere to be seen, comparable clubs are pulling out the stops to get promotion, where as our board seem to be trying to push out Darren Huckerby so that he can be offloaded without blame on their part.

ok, so some of you seem to be missing the point, so let''s make it a little simpler......

1. PG will have a number of different contacts that Worthy never had and maybe he even knows of some decent foreign players who we could sign!!!!!

2. The transfer kitty SHOULD be in the region of £2m bearing in mind the money we planned to spend on Cotterill. I certainly don''t have the knowledge of players that PG has but i''m sure we could buy the likes of David Vaughan (Crewe), Kris Commons (Forest), Justin Hoyte (Arsenal), James Vaughan (Everton - Loan), Billy Jones (Crewe) etc. I think we have been priced out of the likes of Halford, Eastwood and Sharp due to the previous managers lack of vision.....or do u want to blame PG for that aswell.

3. Luke Chadwick is a player who actually improves each time i see him play, and the 6 goals he has scored this season is more than our entire midfield put together (get well soon Luke).

4. Team selection is very objective, there seems to be an anti Docherty campaign building on this board that i can''t agree with. The back 4 where continuously exposed yesterday by the midfield constantly giving the ball away, forcing us to defend deeper and deeper. Yes Dion did very well but he is a 37 year old striker and not the long term answer at the back. As for Saf, as much as i like him, he hasn''t produced a performance for a while. Agreed he is still, in my opinion, a better bet than Robinson or Hughes, but PG made a career of playing in that position so i am willing to give him the benfit of the doubt, and don''t forget it is the time of year when Safs performances always dip!!!

All i ask is that we don''t all jump on the bandwagon and start criticising the guy until it is his team we are critisicing. Lets get behind the manager and the team and i''m sure we make make a play-off place this season.

its quiet worrying when a player comes in and his our best player in his first game.what does that tell you about the resy of the squad.
very well said, let''s not blame PG quiet yet! afterall, we have beaten 4 good sides too.
Spot On

We''ve won 4 good games, played bad in 3 and this is a poor squad which needs changing.

Let''s wait till the end of the season before jumping on the bandwagon, it may seem to be too late however most of the crap arent going to go untill there contracts run out at the end of the season, no-one will want them so we weont be able to free up wages untill then.

Yes, Grant must make changes and try and ship out some in January but realistically he wont be able to make the wholesale changes we need untill the summer whenmost are out of contract.

Frankly, to be even contemplating a win at Ipswich when on 1st October we stood in the rain after a 4-1 home demolition is something we should celebrate.

We were poor yesterday. We were poor at Stoke. Yet we inflicted first home defeats at St Andrews and the Hawthorns and the confidence is returning slowly but surely. expectation builds but the reality is that our squad is really really poor.

Looking at the fixtures after Burnely I couldn''t see where the points would come from to stay in this division. But yesterday remarkably we could have been ONE point from the play offs. That''s some progress.

Now PG may have made the wrong call with Doc and he might have played the wrong Cliff Richard songs on the team bus. However he has inherited the second worst midfield since Hamilton''s loan army in the late 90s at rock bottom. What he has done so far with this squad is above expectations and PG should be congratulated for that.

Another thing- lazy minds. Yes PG that''s right. Not only is our central midfield in particualr lacking in skill and ability, but they can''t even make basic footballing decisions in the heat of a game. He was right with those words- no b******s about taking pride in workrate.

Here, here!

Firstly I have to say that I dont dislike Doherty at all and he is a much better player than he was, BUT Dublin should have played at the back after the team has kept 2 clean sheets. I dont call myself very knowledgeable in the game, but its easy!

I dont feel the team have played to the best of their abilities. There is alot of deadwood in the team but yesterday the whole team made an ok Ipswich squad look great.
