Cold Light of Day...

So we did not sign anybody and we let another player go from an already "thin" squad. Whilst the team continues to play as it is we will be fine, my biggest fear is that we lose any one of our key players to injury or suspension (fingers crossed that our players do not get injured whilst on international duty). I suppose I am a bit disappointed that we did not sign anybody, although I do think that not signing Cotterill may have been a blessing in disguise, we have a fair bit of money in the kitty to enable us to make a couple of quality loan signings (and I am sure that is what we are going to do), and come January if need be we can add to the squad to "push on" for promotion.

I agree, it appears that we are using our promotion winning year as a model for this year - get a Hucks on loan then buy him.

Just hope that when we win promotion NW admits that the cock up of a prem season is not the way to go.

My worry is that we won''t make it to January still in this position -

if the first XI stay injury and suspension free, then fine, we have a

great chance.  But I fear that won''t be the case, and come January

we''ll be wallowing in mid-table, unable to attract anyone of any

quality.

Sure, there are loan signings, but unless these are of a quality that

will be an addition to the squad, and with a view to permanent moves,

they''ll have little impact.

For whatever reason, the club were always going to rely upon loan signings.  I would have been surprised if Cotterill had been anything other than a bench-warmer in the McKenzie role while Earnie is available.

We''ve got 3 loans available to us, and I believe we can call on emergency loans in the event that Gallacher gets injured.  So it''s not the end of the world.

I''m glad the club hasn''t got caught up in this arbitrary transfer window nonsense and panic-bought once Cotterill chose Wigan.  For whatever reason, McLeod was obviously not worth the money that Cotterill was.

To use an excruciating golfing pun, we might not have any irons in the fire, but there might be a few woods.

If we can get a couple of quality loans we should be fine but it''s a big if.  How many quality players moved on loans after the deadline last summer?  Again we can strengthen in January and I just hope we find ourselves in a position where a) we can attract the right players and b) we can hold on to our current players.  If we find ourselves in the same position as last January, we could struggle on both A and B.

The squad is too small but has quality.  The club appear to be gambling on a low injury count and loan signings.  This wouldn''t really be a problem except for periods of bad form last season and the season before that was blamed on an horrendous injury list and players taking time to settle.  It will only take two or three injuries to really disrupt us this time and loan players are hardly going to have time to settle in.

Currently we have a squad of 25 players. 2 Goalkeepers where we had 4 last year.  23 outfield players, 6 of whom were playing reserve and youth team football last year.  This is fine if Worthy has faith in their ability and will play them.  That leaves us with 17 senior outfield players that includes Ryan Jarvis and Henderson who have played very rarely.  Louis-Jean, Thorne, Hughes, McVeigh and Fleming supplement Jarvis and Henderson as experienced backup to the first team.  Not enough quality or quantity - so hopefully we can get some good cover in. Here’s hoping!!

Whoopie doo we may get some of the loans in now , bet we are all relieved about that . What we need to know was why after saying players such as McLeod and Halford were overpriced were we trying to sign the most overpriced one of the lot . Even Ipswich are trying to get a team together and they are skint , we just keep ripping off the fans and banking the money then pleading poverty ...bloody disgrace .

There you go again, Marty.  That''s the third person I''ve seen you

tell to go elsewhere.  Now I don''t often agree with NotWorthy''s

posts/rants, but nothing gives you the right to suggest he bugger off.

The fact is, people are going to complain as long as there is something

to complain about - a lack of signings and an ever-depleting squad is

something of concern to many people, even if you''re not that

bothered.  Try to have a little sympathy for views that differ

from yours.

Quite pleased we didnt get Cotterill, not for £2m anyway. One of my mates is from Bristol and recons he''s still a good way off being the finished article, so agree with the bench warmer comments, although may potentially have been a good bit of business for the future. Thems the breaks though.

1 or 2 quality loan signings plus the inevitable not so quality loan signing should be enough to take us to xmas. Think how much luck we had in our promotion season. If its meant to be, we''ll have the good lady looking over us again!

PS Marty...Thats a lovely pair of guinea pigs.
