Bernard Futter 0 Posted May 11, 2006 Whilst it is clearly advantageous to pay players when they are in a position to contribute on the pitch, it is conversely stupid to miss goods prospects for a month or twos salary package. This seems to be the misguided strategy adopted over the past few years when rivals have had first pick of the available talent. Sadly even with that advantage, I wouldn''t bet on our managerial buffoon - if he''s sadly still in charge - improving on the ''job lot'' he assembled during the last close season. The Duke of Norfolk 0 Posted May 11, 2006 Never mind too many good players being missed, too managers are going to be snapped up by other clubs this summer whilst the good ship Norwich perseveres with good old captain Worthington. If he doesn''t get it right next season and he departs just who will we be able to get in as a new manager once the likes of Borough, Charlton, Sunderland, Derby, Leceister, QPR etc have trawled the leagues this summer for the best available managerial talent? blahblahblah 2 Posted May 11, 2006 I don''t know how transfers are conducted. But I would imagine that we have a shortlist of players we want drawn up.If one of the players on the shortlist is likely to become available, or to move to another team and if we have made our interest in that player known to either the player or the people representing that player, then I assume we would be informed. So probably none of the players we want is likely to be the answer to your question. But the only people that can answer that question work for the club.I suspect it''s a rhetorical question anyway... JohnoBono 0 Posted May 11, 2006 In the interest of prudence we will again be left watching the transfer merry-go-round spin around before we slowly shake ourselves into action, and as in past seasons the rich pickings will be missed, and we will be left to delight ourselves in someother jack-of-all-trades, while the manager and the board telling us how well they have done and how pleased we must be beacause the transfer market is so hard, and most importantly the club has been saved from paying somebodies wages for a whole month. blahblahblah 2 Posted May 11, 2006 We really missed out on Huckerby. Ashton too, what a miss. Oh and Earnshaw. For crying out loud the season of discontent is over. Get it out of your system, follow England to the quarter-finals of the world cup and come back envigorated and refreshed. For the sake of your own sanity if not this board.Anyone else fancy a moan ? Northern Canary 0 Posted May 11, 2006 Ashton and Earnie have been our only two good signings in the last two seasons and both of them came to late. I know Hux was also signed in Jan but was at the club since September on loan. Summer signings are so important
Bernard Futter 0 Posted May 11, 2006 And of course all of the players you list were signed in the close season... Weren''t they?

I dont think Nigel missed anyone he wanted last season - he signed all the players he wanted!! they were just all S***.
We need a Manager 0 Posted May 11, 2006 And the next season of discontent will soon be on us , even Ipswich are getting in a new manager and Royle is head and shoulders better than Worthington.
The Fish Seller 0 Posted May 11, 2006
I don''t know how transfers are conducted. But I would imagine that we have a shortlist of players we want drawn up
And I think that policy is exactly where we are going wrong in the transfer market. My guess is that we wait for players who are on a list in NW''s office to become available when what we should be doing is wheeling and dealing with the other clubs, keeping every eye and ear open for murmerings of discontent and other likely signs an approach would be favourably received. We should be looking over every player within our budget that becomes available, I just cannot for the life of me believe this happens. Assess each player on their merits and potential benefit to the squad and we might get somewhere. I didn''t bother reading the article but I see Linvoy Primus'' name on the pink ''un front page again. Why oh why? Can we not move on? I''m beginning to think whatever shortlist we do have is a couple of years old at best and no-one is prepared to put a line through anyones name, same old names crop up in a volatile fast moving business such as football this is a recipe for something you wouldn''t find in one of Delias books. JC 0 Posted May 12, 2006 Huckerby was pure luck at a time when Keegan was willing to sell after the loan. Ashton, we payed top money for him at the time remember, money nobody else would pay, so that was not about missing an opportunity, that was about desperation. Earnshaw, again, top money nobody else would pay, out of desperation because of our league position, for the second season running! If our policy is as Worthington states, then yes we ARE misssing out on potential players. Man City released TEN yesterday, most of who will not be on our ''want'' list because nobody could predict they would ever be available. We are in the dangerous position of letting more players go from our tiny squad, and the longer we leave it, the more chance we have of a repeat of last year. Worthington panicked last year because we could not get anybody in, so we ended up with cast-offs, Thorne, Hughes, Louis-Jean, Robinson. Oh and Jarrett, who every other club seems to think is a capable footballer, but Worthington crushed him within two months of arrivalThe whole place stinks from top to bottom right now, with poor signings, performance, tactics, and now scapegoats with Foley''s departure, and this mindless, simplistic ''get behind the team/club'' nonsense being spouted will do us more damage in the long run. Well done for showing the ability to make a change when things have gone stale Mr Sheepshanks, if only some of our own fans had the guts to face up to change being needed. And we will do the same with Earnshaw if he wants to move on. But I suspect that Earnshaw will want to get Norwich back to the Premiership.
Thorne, Hughes, Louis-Jean, Robinson. Oh and Jarrett,
Thorne : proven goalscorer with CardiffHughes : Reading didn''t want to lose him, we ended up paying half a million for him. Hardly a cast-off.Louis-Jean : 2 games and then injured. Until then the best player Forest had at the time according to fans I''ve spoken to.Robinson : ok, 50k to fill a perceived gap. But by the time he arrived we were in a bad way anyway.Jarrett : Couldn''t settle for personal reasons, and probably lost ground on the players in the first team, which is a shame. Players have to have their minds on the game, not personal stuff, and I would imagine that is why Jarrett didn''t get many starts.
