nu_matik 184 Posted January 23 With Chelsea turning it on against Boro and scoring six so far against a Championship club tonight... Are we fearful of the same against Liverpool? I guess history tells us we need to be prepared for goals against. But are we much better than Boro and will we give it a better go? My feeling is we will, and if we lose by 3 or more it'll be fine as long as we till get stuck in.
Robert N. LiM 6,301 Posted January 23 Clear from the BBC online report that the Boro fans kept going all night, despite the result. Hope those going to Anfield can do the same if we do end up getting stuffed.

Absolutely, the focus of the players has to be on the Leeds game, which in the grand scheme of things is much more important. It's nice to have the distraction of the Cup and I'm sure everyone in the squad will want to be involved, but if they want to be considered for a run out at Anfield then they need to put in a performance tomorrow. Don't disagree with you and @lake district canary on that. Leeds is vitais in the wider scheme. But they're a team on our level and a different ball game. I'm not sure why I feel we won't get stuffed completely.

This was a semi final second leg in which they were losing, playing at home and had to win. They put out a strong side for that reason. Liverpool will field their B team and probably still comfortably win I would imagine, but I doubt we'll get proper thrashed. That's unless they sign Suarez maybe 😅
lake district canary 4,831 Posted January 24 I presume Wagner will set us up as against Southampton, surrender possession and just play attrition football, hoping for a wonder goal from one of the front guys. He'll probably do the same tonight against Leeds, so in that sense, both games will be quite predictable. I don't particularly like it, but maybe it will mean both games will be quite close. A draw tonight, a draw on Saturday and penalties would be a good outcome.

(Hope that kills ya blah blah...) Although I'm more excited about the game against Leeds first of all. Let's go!

I remember when they beat us 5-0 and Suarez scored a wonder goal, we kept on singing that night including a "let's pretend we scored a goal" celebration. When Emi scored against them we went bananas.
