Having watched this eye-opening video earlier, I'm wondering how much further the American public will take their own delusions of grandeur in the face of common sense and frankly being ripped off.

After some thought I'm convinced there has to be a market for buying signed Josh Sargent NCFC shirts in the UK and selling them to the US. A prudent estimate of acquisition and sale prices shows a profit margin could be expected for each sale of roughly 10000%, that's buying a shirt here for £5 and selling to the US for £500.

And I have no doubt that it would be possible. The guy is one of the greatest soccer players of our time, plays in the second-best league in the world (after the MLS), and has more than earned his nicknames of 'Afronaldo' and 'Sideshow Bobby Charlton' by his Nor-witch State fans in the United States of Kingdom.

Who is with me?

I once bought a framed signed photo of Muhammed Ali at a Sporting dinner auction for £50 (and thought I'd been done as was drunk and Sir Geoff Hurst himself coerced me!).  Currently you can pick an identical one up in the US for $4,500.  I'm hoping this can only rise further given Ali isn't around no more so am not selling.

But $1,500 for a signed Pulisic jersey?  Nah mate .....  Still on that basis a Sargent top for $500 - considering the return in terms of goals this season for both, on a par......

Not too sure I'm really into this constant Sargent bashing, from every angle possible. It achieves nothing and most certainly will never enhance any likelihood of him making a positive contribution to the City cause.

He is a young kid, who puts in maximum effort every single minute he is on the field of play.

He did not settle the fee we paid for him. If his shortcomings are deemed insurmountable then it  those who scouted him and paid the fee who should be pilloried.

I repeat, incessant player bashing is detrimental to the City cause. It achieves nothing whatsoever. It is just a pointless exercise in scapegoating with knobs on.

I agree with you, and I have been defending him on various other threads from very OTT abuse, he hasn't deserved any of that sort of slating he's got (but certainly a normal level of criticism). However I did find the image of the American's raving about his performances in the same way they are in the video as pretty hilarious. That was more the point of the OP.

Fair enough. Josh Sargent has had his moments too.

As a kid I worked in a sports shop. We had regular visitors from US servicemen from the local air bases looking for cricket bats to take home. One year, a manufacturer had an issue with flies in the packing area and a number of the bats had flies in the packaging. I told the guys from the US that they were there for luck, they sold out in a week. In fact we had them coming in asking for a bat with a fly in the packaging for months afterwards. Makes me laugh to think that someone, somewhere is still convinced that the squashed cluster fly has brought him good fortune.

Maybe we should get Josh one?
