Daniel - I hope it ends with dignity

Recommended Posts

At all clubs managers come and managers go. Some stay for years whilst the turnover at Derby and Forest over the last ten years has been truly staggering. Sometimes managers resign to take up 'better jobs' whilst others get sacked (sometimes unjustifiably). There are instances, though, where managers hang on (backed by the Board) for months whilst the fanbase deteriorates into almost open civil war. It happened here in 2005 - 2006 where Worthy fronted up the fans and hung on for best part of 12 months. It happened at Arsenal more recently with Wenger.

Only a couple of weeks ago the idea that the club might dismiss Farke or he may resign was unthinkable. Now, not so. Although I have never been a 100% Farke fan due (largely) to the drivel he comes out with in his interviews, there is nil doubt that he has been paramount in producing some of the finest football any of us have ever seen from Norwich teams. That plus two Championship winning campaigns means his place is assured right at the forefront of our history. HOWEVER (and its a damn big 'However'), if results continue to fall apart over the next couple of weeks or so, the situation will start to have a downward spiral which only the key protagonists can control. Those three are, of course, The Cook (as owner), Webber (as Sporting Director or whatever his fancy title is) and Farke.

It's a 'given' that Smith and Webber will both 'front up' the fans. They are both thin skinned, belligerent characters who will (almost eagerly) set out a very public stall in 'defence of Daniel'. What of the key player in all this intriguing soap opera though? How might Farke react? Well my view is that Farke will want to protect his relationship with us at all costs and if he sees the writing on the wall I think he will do a Peter Grant and leave with great dignity. I hope very much that that is the case if events unravel.

You accuse Farke of coming out with drivel................................ I guess you don't understand irony.

I understand some of what you're saying. I am however a big Farke fan he comes across as a humble man doing his best for the club and the fans and has mostly done well since being here. I do however get the point that it takes courage to know when to walk away and save dignity, I have done it myself and I didn't have the money behind me that Farke does, but sometimes despite all your best efforts you lose the support and belief that your are the man for the job. Best walk away while you can hold your head high.

Farke is not a quitter and he will do everything he can to turn it round and turn the new squad into a strong competitive one - and I believe he will do that.  Dignity starts with the way supporters treat him - with the respect he is due for the way he has rebuilt the club alongside Webber - and when we finally start picking up points, we will see a bit more steel and determination in our game that this poor start will necessarily instill.  You have to find your way through bad patches, not give in and Farke will find a way.

So what do you exactly disagree with? You're a big Farke / Cook fan so lets hear what you have to say on what might unravel over the next few weeks. All I've expressed is admiration for the guy for the quality of football produced. The comment about his interview style is personal taste only on my part.

Comment I made to hogesar applies to you too. All to easy to just 'take  a swipe' as you've done. Another matter entirely to put forward a constructive response.

He may do that I grant and I hope he does. My question was simple........if results continue to unravel and the fans start 'to turn' what will he do?

Like I said, it is up to the fans - always - to show dignity and respect for a manager who has performed marvels in his four years here.

I understand it's not good to be a quitter but whatever his methods are it didn't work in the Prem last time and it is even worse this time.

There is difference between deserting a sinking ship and knowing when you are the one sinking it.

I get all the good times and it's been brilliant but everyone has their limitations I believe DF has reached his, you don't that's fair enough

I'm not entirely sure you thought out the Wenger and Worthy references? Both teams got undeniably worse when they left?

Stability breeds success. Unless someone entirely is not up to it, a change may have short term success (eg last 10 games of the season by a 'motivator') but if a manager is competent then keeping stability is the key, changing repeatedly - which is definitely what will happen, how many 'new' managers who haven't built up the good will Farke has will be given more than 10-15 games by the fans? - will just lead to disaster. Farke is the man, our man, lets show some b*llocks and support him, like we are supposed to.
