Does Dr Who count? Even if you’re not a fan, you have to admire its amazing longevity and the ability to reinvent itself.

For film: Dune. And the book - I read it a couple of times in my teens and loved it. We rewatched the first film (not the David Lynch one) recently to get ready for the new one and now I’m reading the book again frantically before we watch number two. It’s a superbly constructed other-world with really plausible alien cultures.

And of course the other film has to be Blade Runner. I prefer the original version with the Philip Marlow-style narrator although I get it’s not what many people would choose. The director’s cut was a bit self-indulgent IMHO. But again, the future world was so believable, especially for its time. And a great soundtrack.

I stopped watching Doctor Who when Sylvester McCoy played the Doctor and the ridiculous monster the Kandy Man which was a robot Licorice Allsort-rather pathetic. I've never watched it since.

Can I just ask one question?

    Would anyone like any toast?

    😃

I like reading Science Fiction but not watching it so much and I was desperately thinking of a show I like so I could contribute-thanks for reminding me of Red Dwarf which I absolutely loved-well, the first 6 seasons anyway.

Blimey, I just took a quick look at the Boro forum and they make this place look like a ball pool full of toddlers hyped up on sugar and fizzy pop.

”Me personally I'm expecting more of the same failed tactics with players going through the motions, beaten before they run onto the pitch, their confidence in pieces before a ball is kicked and a manager seemingly oblivious to it all or simply unable to offer anything else. ”

“I’ll be going and I'll no doubt let it ruin my night.
    I expect a comfortable defeat.“

”About as excited as a dog going to the vets to have his knackers cut off. A vague sense of dread grows ever more acute as the number of sleeps til Wednesday diminishes.”

”Even though I have a ST I'd quite like not to go.”

    ”meh”

Are you sure that was their forum, reads very much like ours 😳

I've been banned from TWTD three times when I just couldn't resist😂 One of them was a suggestion they call the samaritans on 414141 or 515151. No sense of humour some people.

I have an account on TWATTED that I created in 2016 but I don’t remember ever posting on there.

Why do I think it's Saturday today?

I know I'm retired, but I was looking for the match thread, as well as thinking the retail park was not very busy for a Saturday.

Oh, and Breydon Water is very high just now...

I lost my boombox on Breydon Water in 1985, it was on the roof of our barge and a gust of wind carried it over the side. One of our party nearly ran us aground trying to retrieve it. It was playing a cassette of the Footloose soundtrack at the time. It was a mercy killing 🤣

Plenty of flamboyant skilful individuals from the 70/80’s era, who weren’t afraid to show it and didn’t throw themselves to  the floor at the first opportunity (cheating ****). The game  was played by men, didn’t cry, wear alice bands or spend as much time on their goal celebrations as shooting.

‘Hacked down by thugs’ lol, …,, Forbes, Stringer, Hockey, etc….  certainly dished it out, I think of them as City legends.

For the hiding Ipswich fans on here, add ‘The Beet’, hard as hell, fantastic athleticism and ability.

I think this illustrates the sort of thing you and I are saying. I don’t know if Fernandes was fouled but he clearly wasn’t injured, and for his manager to not only say nothing about his actions but to demand an apology from Fulham for calling him out on pretending to be injured is pretty disgusting.

Classic=filthy, foul littered scrum. The reason to watch it today is to be thankful that in the modern era skilful players have a chance to play, rather than being hacked down by thugs.

Modern players get more protection but players from 50 years ago didn’t roll around feigning injury at the slightest touch.

It's my earliest memory of watching football on the TV, probably only because it was rare at 6 to be allowed to stay up beyond 8pm.

My favourite bit was when Jack Charlton got hacked from behind (a certain booking, if not a sending off nowadays) heading towards his own goal; he ignored the impact of the challenge but berated strongly a team mate for not finding space to offer him an out ball!

I’ve mentioned before that the final and the replay were the first games I remember seeing on TV. I didn’t recall that either match was particularly dirty, but then I was also 6 at the time!

I think it's good progression. They beat Ipswich fourth round, so get to go to a better stadium against a bigger club who have actually won something in the lifetime's of the majority of people alive today.

Their FA Cup win was only 6 years after Ipswich’s UEFA Cup win and they don’t own their stadium. Can’t deny they’re a bigger club though!
