  1. carrowroad.net is reporting Earnie in talks with Charlton, please, please, please NOOOOOOOOO If Earnie goes to a Prem side then fair enough, but not one of the sides we should be competing against for a place in the Premiership. If this report is true i will be very, very unhappy, but hey why would the club care about that, they have my money for next season so can string me along again.
  2. Sorry Jimmy 500 but i cannot agree. The time to be sensible is when it is not realistic to get back into the Premiership. As i have already stated the Huckerby factor will not be with us 4 much longer and with the constant increase of earnings for clubs coming out of the Premiership from parachute payments it will get harder and harder to get out of this division. If we buy the likes of Sharp, Eastwood and Marshall they would be investments, players who''s values we would all hope and expect to increase weather we are promoted or not, meaning the only long term cost to the club is their salaries and bearing in mind we released 5 players at the end of last season this should not be a problem. Where the signings of Crouch and Huckerby calcualted gambles or the club going out on a limb, i would say the latter.
  3. Prudence has given us relegation, obscurity and obscurity in the last 3 seasons. The last time the boat was pushed out was when we signed Huckerby and Crouch and look what that led to. Hucks is still a major force in this division but only for 1 or maybe 2 more seasons hence the need to invest in the squad now!!!! Without Hucks i can see it being a long time b4 we will have a realistic chance of returning to the promised land. Ambition now, prudence later please.
  4. i do hope you are right Bigmarkcanary and we have a number of options who will prove to be better value, however i do feel centre midfield with Saf of to the African Nations is an area we need to strengthen and i don''t mean another Fotheringham......pay peanuts and get monkeys!!!
  5. Just being a realist Butch, normally when a player says they want to play in the Premiership a deal will be done and i certainly don''t want to go through the whole Ashton thing again. It is called player power. I would love to see Earnie here come the 1st September but i also want him to want to be here.
  6. As much as i applaud Mr. Grant for not bowing to the demands of players and their agents over wage demands, signing on fees etc. i do find it concerning that Cardiff are willing to pay the monies required for an International midfielder who was Vice Captain at Rangers last season. Fair enough if Mr Grant didn''t think Rae was worth what he wanted but if we did really want him it is concerning that Cardiff are able to out bid us bearing in mind we have reduced our wage bill considerably recently with the release of McVeigh, Thorne, Louis-Jean and Henderson. So are we not able to compete financially with Championship sides of an equal or lesser status than ourselves or do we have so many more options that we don''t need to spend silly money.....oh how i hope it is the latter.
  7. Gallacher, Lewis, Ostembor, Colin, Hughes, Cave-Brown, Drury, Shackell, Docherty, Dublin, Rossi Jarvis, Spillane, Safri, Etuhu, Fotheringham, Lappin, Croft, Chadwick, Eagle, Huckerby, Ryan Jarvis, Martin, Brown, Earnshaw These are what i think we can assume is our 1st team squad at present. There are 24 names of which it seems highly likely 3 (Colin, Hughes and Earnie) will leave over the next few weeks and a further 5 (Lewis, Cave-Brown, Rossi Jarvis, Eagle and Ryan Jarvis) may well be loaned out. This will leave us with a squad of 16 players (excluding the likes of Renton, Halliday and Smart) to take into the new season. In my opinion we need to add 5/6 players assuming the above sales and loans happen. We need a goalkeeper (Gallacher or Camp), a defender who can preferably play anywhere across the back (we didn''t get Billy Jones so i''d bring back Kenton), a ball winning midfielder to compete with Saf and give cover during the African Nations (Kevin Nicholls), a left sided midfielder (David Vaughan or Kris Commons) and 2 strikers (Sharp, Eastwood, McLeod, Cureton Grant Holt or Boyd). With a squad of 22 players we will be able to field strong sides even when injuries and suspensions kick in without having to rely on youngsters and this should all be feasible given the fee we can expect for Earnie.
  8. I think my sarcasim has been lost on you. If it was a serious post i would have had Hughes in goal...lol
  9. With a reported offer made for Eastwood and with the ongoing talks with Sharp and rumours about Cureton could we start the season something like this:-   Gallacher Ostemboor Docherty Brown  Martin Jarvis Chadwick Huckerby Sharp Earnshaw Eastwood Subs Renton, Croft, Smart, Eagle, Lewis (can use his height up front) Results like 5 - 4, 4 - 7, 6 - 6 will become reality!!!!
  10. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/6745425.stm Saw this guy play against the England B team the other day and he was the best player on the park, now he is off to Burnley for £350k.Could have done a seriously good job for us and ''taken us to the next level''. Are we not enquiring about these players or is Burnley really a more attractive proposition then Norwich these days?
  11. The 7 million is a combined bid for Kamara and Koumas therefore valuing them at 3.5m each. This would make an offer of 4.5m for Earnie about the going rate, however just for the record i think we should be building a team with him in it, afterall where else will we find a 30 goal a season striker?
  12. ok, so some of you seem to be missing the point, so let''s make it a little simpler...... 1. PG will have a number of different contacts that Worthy never had and maybe he even knows of some decent foreign players who we could sign!!!!! 2. The transfer kitty SHOULD be in the region of £2m bearing in mind the money we planned to spend on Cotterill. I certainly don''t have the knowledge of players that PG has but i''m sure we could buy the likes of David Vaughan (Crewe), Kris Commons (Forest), Justin Hoyte (Arsenal), James Vaughan (Everton - Loan), Billy Jones (Crewe) etc. I think we have been priced out of the likes of Halford, Eastwood and Sharp due to the previous managers lack of vision.....or do u want to blame PG for that aswell. 3. Luke Chadwick is a player who actually improves each time i see him play, and the 6 goals he has scored this season is more than our entire midfield put together (get well soon Luke). 4. Team selection is very objective, there seems to be an anti Docherty campaign building on this board that i can''t agree with. The back 4 where continuously exposed yesterday by the midfield constantly giving the ball away, forcing us to defend deeper and deeper. Yes Dion did very well but he is a 37 year old striker and not the long term answer at the back. As for Saf, as much as i like him, he hasn''t produced a performance for a while. Agreed he is still, in my opinion, a better bet than Robinson or Hughes, but PG made a career of playing in that position so i am willing to give him the benfit of the doubt, and don''t forget it is the time of year when Safs performances always dip!!! All i ask is that we don''t all jump on the bandwagon and start criticising the guy until it is his team we are critisicing. Lets get behind the manager and the team and i''m sure we make make a play-off place this season.
  13. Please will all the doubters lay off PG and give the guy a chance!!! It wouldn''t have mattered who the new manager was they would have needed to reconstruct the squad that they inherited, and i actually think PG has done a decent job with what he has inherited. He has managed to get some results with a group of players who simply aren''t good enough. So far PG has signed Ashdown and Chadwick, both of which i believe will be good signings, and i''m sure we will see numerous player movements in January when he will have a lot more flexbility in the transfer market. It might mean us losing a Saf or a Hucks but if PG is to be judged, criticised and slagged off please let it be with his players, the ones that he wants at the club. Let''s judge him this time next year, not today, tomorrow or even in May, let''s give him the opportunity to make his own mark. I think he talks a lot of sense and hasn''t been fooled by our recent rather fortunate 1 - 0 wins, he can see there are players who simply aren''t good enough so lets''s give the guy a chance....please
  14. Monies on Mcleish......literally. 7/1 on Coral, money well spent? we''ll soon find out!!!
  15. would be my shout for the job. yes, he''s unconventional but i don''t thing he''s in it 4 the headlines. he seems to be an excellent motivator who gets the best out of his players. As for his record, he won the Conference with Barnet, then took over a Brentford side in the relegation places and took them to consecutive play offs (with a small squad and no money to spend). He is now at MK Dons rebuilding a side that has been in freefall for years. I certainly think we could do a lot worse
  16. Will people please get off the Doc''s case - yes he has had 2 terrible games but he had some poor games last season and the one thing his poor games have in common is Craig Fleming. Flem time has come and gone, the only passion he showed yesterday was wanting to have a fight with a Burnley defender in their 6 yard box while Burnley where attacking and who was the covering defender when Doc was sent off? Boyle, where was Flem? getting his bus pass i expect, Shacks is the future so please Mr New Manager start picking the future not the past. Damn that turned into a anti-Fleming post and wasn''t meant to - he has been a great servant, unfortunately the emphasis is on the HAS
  17. sorry, but i''ve always liked Dion as a player and found it difficult to watch a player yesterday who was a shadow of a very good player from the 90''s. As much as i would love to see him be a success it was blatantly obvious from yesterday that his legs have a gone and he is no more than a last 20 mins nuisance player these days. It doesn''t matter who the new manager is, not even Yuri Geller can turn back time....
  18. LGT, i would agree except for Shackell (maybe if the manager had confidence in him he wouldn''t make silly mistakes), Colin (one of our best players this season) and Robinson (get rid quick)!!!!!
  19. add Martin Allen to the list and i''ll place a vote - we have a good coach in Martin Hunter, what we need now is a manager who can motivate players, and for me Martin Allen IS the man for the job.
  20. he was on trial days ago, he signed yesterday
  21. it WAS Legwingski, Sibierski has gone to Newcastle!
  22. all eggs in 1 basket Kid no backup plan, no plan B - but it''s OK they''ve only had since May to do 1 piece of business. as has been said earlier if i didn''t do my job i''d get the sack....if u sell your only back up striker of note and don''t replace him, have no cover on the left of the team and no cover for Croft then someone isn''t doing their job..... ....and don''t talk to me about loan signings, yes we had Hucks, Crouch, and Harper but we have also had Rehman, Johansson, Hammond and Marney, hardly set the world alight!!!!
