Changes for Newcastle game

Recommended Posts

The only change I would make from yesterdays starting 11 would be to replace Fleming ( poor game again yesterday, especially Hughes header) with either Doherty or Charlton ( if he is still at the club).

Totally agree. Fleming was, yet again, absolutely useless; how he didn''t get his header in against Hughes (who''s almost as short as Cousteau Johnson) is beyond belief - Fleming watch him run 30 yards and STILL didn''t cover the run! What really wound me up is that Fleming tried to find someone else to blame for his mistake! I think we can forget about Charlie coming back, he''s obviously upset Worthington somewhere along the line, so NW shoots himself in the foot by not using Charlie at this most crucial part of the season. If Charlie had been alongside Shacks yesterday up against Johnson, his know-how would have been invaluable. So Worthington will lose Charlie over the summer but keep Fleming - that says it all about his management skills.

I totally disagree, we should keep the same team for Weds, Palace''s first goal was crap defending but it was a team error, 2nd goal was a cracking header, their third was.......

charlton must return, for either fleming or drury. i just can''t see where he ever went wrong? i think having made both fleming and drury captains, worthington is reluctant to drop either as its an admission he made a mistake. helveg for captaincy

Cannot see Charlton playing for City again , he clearly is right out of the picture at the moment , which is a shame when he looked one of our better defenders earlier in the season and Fleming keeps making costly errors . But when he did not make the side for the trip to Bolton you just knew he was not going to get back in.

At the end of the day we failed to win yesterdays game beacuse of our defencive frailties and a theatrical dive from Diver Johnson (now why did he have that name?)

The first two goals were appalling and Iwould have been ashamed if a kid or sunday team had  conceeded them  -  the far post left totally exposed despite 10 men back in the box and a once again static until too late Flem finals picks up on a squirt of a player nipping past him.  I dont take the argument that excuses the defender because it was a great header (which it was) as Flem should have taken his runner and would then have had a routine cross to clear being GOAL SIDE of his player - old fashioned perhaps but its best to be goal side for a reason.  I reckon thatit is now around 15-20% of all goals are DIRECTLY attributable to Flem yet worthy continues to do nothing and I have full confidence that if any central defender is dropped it will be shacks ahead of Flem for potentially conceeding 2 pens.

Bring in Doc to combat Shearer and Ameobis power threat or actually our best defender of teh season - who is that bloke - oh yes a wee lad called Simon Charlton who had actually proved season in season out that he has PREMIER ability  -  but that is not worthys style.

Despite getting that off my chest (again - sorry for the repetition) I am still bizarrely confident that we can get 3 points from the toon army on weds even with the handicap of flem in the side.

I would suggest that anyone watches a slomo replay of the Hughes goal from the start of the approach play. Fleming looks back and sees Hughes approaching, so he has time to work out what to do. Then when the cross comes in, can someone please tell me what on earth Fleming thought his reaction and following action was going to do to stop an attempt on goal?

I am sorry to say that I agree with you. Fleming, the longest serving in the squad, etc. But that has been the trouble all season, I think, brilliant offensive play, and just not good enough from the one that should have been ruling tn the defense.
