milan marcus 0 Posted April 27, 2004 I''ve got a bad feeling that if a big four come in (maybe Arsenal) after Greeno we may be forced to sell him. I do not know if we could financially turn it down (Scott Parker is a case example). He may well make the Euro''s, he is English, young and talented. How important is he to staying in the prem or should we sell (I am thinking £8 - £10 million).
Chirpy Wings 0 Posted April 27, 2004 Na. The top teams are to preoccupied with buying overvalued foreigners (like Chelski''s new keeper) to look at Green at the mo. We should keep him for a couple of years at least.£8mil - £10mil would not be to bad if we could spend it all on players.
no1canary 0 Posted April 27, 2004 if a team that comes up wants to stay in the prem, they need a quality gk to even have a chance of staying up. green could be very important for us next year and we would do everything we could to keep him. i can''t see anyone coming in for him next year. if we wouldn''t have been promoted then maybe someone would have come looking. teams always look for players on the cheap, and i only think they would come in for him if we got relegated next season, so he would be cheaper. Norfolk Dan 336 Posted April 27, 2004 What are you on?1- Greeno has no premiership experience.2- He has never played for his country3 - He has never played in a european tie.I think what you are getting at is that he is a premership quality goalkeeper and has the possibility of going to the top of his game. No doubt our coming season will prove just how good the man is. I just hope he does not do a Richard Wright. Be the goalkeeper that keeps us in the premiership and then leaves, we need Greeno for the next 3 season to cement our position in the lower end of the Prem, with secure foundations to move up the league. I feel without Greeno we will be back in with the binners.
Archie 0 Posted April 27, 2004 i think this is higly unlikely, but here is a scenario that for some reason i think may come truei) arsenal keep lehmann for another year even though he is rubbishii) greeno has a great season, plays for england a couple of times etc etc but we get relegatediii)arsenal sign him for 5million odddont slate me for saying we will go down, but suppose it happens are better players are likely to be signed like at west ham
DumbleDelia is Magic 0 Posted April 27, 2004 Never going to happen. Well not this year anyway.
Pyro Pete 2,353 Posted April 27, 2004 I think we are fairly safe with holding onto Green for the near future. Strangely, up to three England goalkeepers could be relegated to Division One by the end of the season. Paul Robinson with Leeds, Ian Walker with Leicester and David James with Man City. I think at least two of them will be looking to join Premiership clubs this summer.Next season all our players will in the spot light. So any who perform well are likely to attract transfer speculation.
Goss-pel 0 Posted April 27, 2004 I reckon Greno will stay. You don''t have to be at a top club to get into the England team as is shown by his call up along with James and Walker. I hate to say it but he will probably get more chance to show his talent if he stays with us. Chelsea aleady have a goaly comng in. Howard will recover from his ''rest'', Liverpool have Kirkland and the Toon Given so they don''t need a keeper and I think Arsenal are more likely to go for Niemi who is the best keeper since Schmiecal and may even get better. ZLF 335 Posted April 27, 2004 Archie - your scenario rings some bells - wasnt that Richard Wright? and it his his transfer that means arsenal wont move for green this season and the rest of the big 4 have decent keepers already to risk spending that sort of cash. If the gooners are going to buy anyone I am sure it will be robinson from a cash strapped and relegated leeds.I agree that the summer of 2005 will be much more difficult - I think I am right in saying Greenos contract is up then and he could leave for a Bosman. If we can stay in the premier and greeno continues to get in the england squad we would have a hope of getting him to re-sign - otherwise I suspect he will be on his way. Any chance of an improved contract for him this close season with a a get out clause for himif we get relegated? I dont want him to leave but at least this way we would get some cash for him!OTBC
