On the evidence of the Spurs game...

Recommended Posts

Having seen the Tottenham game in full (thankyou Setanta for failing to encode) I would look at this line-up:------------------------Marshall-----------------------Otsemobor-------Kennedy--------Shackell--------BertrandCroft-------------Bell--------------Clingan--------Hoolahan-----------------Lupoli-----------Mystery big guy

In explanation: Semmy looked good, fast powerful, good crosses in attack, covered well in defense. Shackell looked more solid than Stefanovic when he came on, I''d want to try him alongside the next largest non-donkey, Omozusi I''d rather see in competition with Semmy, looks a good player, just not a centre-back. Pattison was rubbish in all he did, I''m not even being unkind. Croft was effective on the wing, and we need his directness in the side, his final ball was better too and he works well with Semmy. Bell, therefore, is introduced centrally, and boy do we need him! There was no creativity in the middle aside from Hoolahan, who I''d rather see out wide in a 4-4-2. The alternative is Pattison on the wing and he WAS RUBBISH IN ALL HE DID. Also, I would hope for Bell to burst into the box and provide a much needed goal threat from the middle. Clinghan was very tidy tonight and impressed me. Fozzy and Rusty were both somewhat ineffective tonight (Rusty, at least, providing a bit more of a goal threat). Up front I have dropped tonight''s goal scorer and I feel a bit bad about it, it''s a toss up but I want to see if Lupoli has that little bit of extra pace we''re desperately lacking up front. And finally, we do need a muscle man to make a target of himself, hold it up, harrass the opposition defense, pull players out of possition and bring the goal machine (who I''m not sure we have) into play.Thoughts welcome.

i assure you stefanovic will be superb for us and that croft whilst being ok. isnt as viable as chadwick is.agree with you about semmy though, he appears to have worked on his defensive play alot, now competition is here he has no choice really...

[/quote]I''m not claiming Croft is our best player or anything, just that he gives us an extra dimension, a dimension that Chadders wouldn''t since he drifts in rather than takes players on. The key, for me, could be the inclusion of bell (I hope!)oh... and STRIKERS!

Can''t agree with your comments about Semmy - thought he looked totally exposed and run ragged by their no.13 in the second half.  Thought Hoolahan thoroughly dererved our MOTM.  Also thought Clingan looked useful.  Desperately need more fire power....rumour has it that Heskey is on his way.

IMO that side is ok, but I''d make a few changes to it:

                            Marshall

Otsemabor    Stefanovic*  Kennedy*    Bertrand

Bell      Clingan     Fozzie/Rusty       Hoolahan

               Lupoli  a.n.other

Subs:  Hungarian bloke (keeper), Cureton, Fozzie/Rusty, Omuzusi, Croft/Chadwick

Whilst we shouldn''t forget tonight''s result, it was a preseason friendly and should be taken as such.  It is all about getting the players ready for the new season, and getting pitch time too.  I''m unconvinced about it being a poor performance, rather thinking that we were up against a far better side, us with several players missing (Bell, Lupoli etc)/not matchfit but needing pitch time (Stefanovic).

Back to the ground where he made his debut as a 17 year old and (if memory serves me well) scored the only goal in a win for Leicester god knows how many years ago....over to you God....

Branston:  that''s the side I''d head to Coventry with in a 4-4-2.  Would like to see Hooligan "in the hole" for home games as he looks like our most creative player with a view to the killer pass, pushing Plastic up to left side midfield and possibly Drury to cover.  Drury may get his confidence back having someone in front of him who will help defend!

Just back....my line-up similar except totally unconvinced by Semmy as first choice. Omozusi for me. Thought Jamie looked better but by god do they need a physical presence up top, but not necessarily a ''target man''.

Hoolihan, Clingan and Sefanovic stood out for me.

Well done Glenn & co. For me, you''ve dealt really well & bought quality.

Hate to say it but I never realised scummer Bent was that good.n Thunderous shot from little backlift and very good second goal.

Jamie finished his very well too.
