Robsta 0 Posted June 15, 2008 Just been catching up with various posts and views on the subject of incoming players! What i was wondering and open it up for debate....we''ve been linked with so many different players since the season ended and i totally trust GR, but look what happened last year...we all had very high expectations....Big Dave, Brellier, Murray, Jamie to name but a few! And look what happened! What would be better?? A 50/50 split of permanent/loans or 100% permanent? Why i ask this is at least with the loans we aren''t stuck with them and they wont sost a fortune to terminate contracts! Whats your opinion??????? Graham Humphrey 13 Posted June 15, 2008 I''d imagine we''d end up with three or four loan players. They can be a very good addition to a squad (obvious examples being Bertrand, Evans and Taylor) but we do need a more solid base to work with. So perhaps a better split, in an ideal world, would be more 75/25. But then it''s not an ideal world.
Lincs CR 0 Posted June 15, 2008 I agree with Roeder that loan signings are a great way to get us in a good position to get promoted.Option A - Use millions to buy premiership quality players to get promoted - We dont have millionsOption B - Buy championship players under our budget and be stuck in the leagueOption C - Get loan signings who have that edge over the squad backed up with permanent squad membersPersonally i think loan signings are a great way of moving onwards and upwards. It means we have increased links with top Premiership clubs, such as Chelsea, Arsenal and Man City last season, it gives young talent what they deserve and it proves to work well for Tier 2 clubs.Take Bertrand for example, he was praised and praised last season and fully deserved it. We got Taylor on loan, Evans on loan, Gibbs on loan, ALL of these signings proved to be VERY effective for us.If we don''t have the millions then its the only way forward. Hog 0 Posted June 15, 2008 More was certainly expected from Dave Striker and "The Judge" for sure but Cureton was always going to be seen by many as a very poor replacement for Earnie and Murray was hopelessly injury prone preceeding his move.
NCFC_Thain 0 Posted June 16, 2008 In this day and age you need loans as well as perms. I don''t have any problem with having the maximum 5 in the match day squad come a Saturday. Its a less expensive gamble than signing a player. If you sign a player and he is awful you are stuck with him until you can sell him or his contract is up, with a loanee after there time is up you can have nothing to do with them and you can even send them back if you have agreed that with the parent club. James Kent 0 Posted June 16, 2008 Agreed we will need 4 or 5 loan players to add depth to the squad and there is nothing wrong with that, but I would like most of the key players to be city players.
