yellowmad 0 Posted May 1, 2008 Sorry for the miss spell on the first post.Did anyone watch the reserves tonight, I thought the right winger and right back played well especially in the first half. also lathrope played well in the first but faded in the second. NCFC_Shaun 0 Posted May 3, 2008 what do people think on not entering the reserves league next season?? we, along with a number of clubs are considering just playing a series of friendly matches instead.
yellowmad 0 Posted May 3, 2008 I think it is a big mistake, I can understand some peoples thoughts that there are not enough matches but I would have stayed in the league and added friendly matches to make up the numbers.Yes GH is right that some of these matches are glorified youth matches, but it gives these players valuable experience. Unlucky Fried Kitten 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Perhaps we could play King''s Lynn every week!
yellowmad 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Perhaps we should just join the Ridgeons Premier like Cambridge United reserves (CRC). I am still not convinced that this direction is a step up for the youth team players.
Jonny 5 0 Posted May 3, 2008 From the interview it sounds like Roeder wants less games rather than more. He does have a point if most of the reserves are youth players, who will be playing in their own league. Would also save the pitch at Carrow Road a little. yellowmad 0 Posted May 3, 2008 That will keep the fringe players sharp if they are needed
birdman 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Totally agree, I cannot see how playing local teams is going to help the fringe players keep fit and ready for the championship, and after the Doooooncaster telling us all that there is no mony the likelyhood is that these fringe players will be needed. I watched the reseves versus MK on Thursday and I would agree that Eagles played well, Lathrope played well in the first half as did Cooper at right back. Rudd had very little to but did it well. Spillane and Cave Brown were solid, The rest of them were average at best.
dickyst220 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Why not get rid of the reserve team altogether? Surely this would save some dosh ???
Mello Yello 2,573 Posted May 3, 2008
Why not get rid of the reserve team altogether? Surely this would save some dosh ???
Yes, ''reserves'' are really no ''substitute'' - for the real thing....
birdman 0 Posted May 3, 2008 What will the fringe players do them or are you just relying on no injuries, Newcastle did this a few years ago and realised after one season that it was a bad idea, with the transfer windows and lack of money if the first team has a spate of injuries non playing fringe players are not going to cut it. Carlos Valderrama 0 Posted May 3, 2008 I think by pulling out of the reserves league we give ourselves a better opportunity to play more frequent second string friendlys against a better quality of opposition. With no disrespect intended but Grays and Stevenage are hardly football superpowers are they. And the problem of crap opposition affected everyone in the division not just us.Might also save a few quid in the process.
birdman 0 Posted May 3, 2008 Not wanting to point out the obvious but even Grays and Stevenage are in higher leagues than any "Local" oposition.
yellowmad 0 Posted May 3, 2008 I fear you might be right.
Jonny 5 0 Posted May 4, 2008
Not wanting to point out the obvious but even Grays and Stevenage are in higher leagues than any "Local" oposition.
But we don''t play Grays or Stevenage, we play against Grays Reserves and Stevenage Reserves. Roeder mentions playing Kings Lynn first team.
birdman 0 Posted May 4, 2008 And Kings Lynn are going to send their first team to tire them on on a Wednesday before a vital match in their first season in the Conference North/South, just like we will send our first team to play them in pre season...dream on
GMF 1,010 Posted May 4, 2008 Reserve football is dying a long and slow, painful death. At the top end of the game the likes of Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United would rather send their better players out on loan to the Championship, whilst the League One and League Two teams can bearly afford a reserve team set up. In the middle, hindered by the advent of the Premier League reserves set up, teams like us just can''t get decent opposition on a regular basis. Therefore, Roeder is merely confirming what many in the game are now thinking, reserve footy is on it''s way out.
birdman 0 Posted May 4, 2008 I think you might find that the top teams have a fully functional reserve team, they send their better reserve players out on loan so that they get vital experience and playing time, remove the reserves and you are reliant on loan players from bigger clubs, if everyone removes their reserves all the smaller clubs will be competing for the better loan players, we have been lucky this year that we got Evans, who knows if we will be lucky next season. Martin had a decent first season but faded, if Evans returns next year will oposing defenders have sussed him out? We have been lucky this season with loan players but will we in the future?
