Just how far...

...would we have gone if we had beaten Bury in the third round?  Because with all these upsets happening in the cup we could of been where Cardiff and Barnsley are.  And it would just have to be our luck that we play really bad and go out.  We could be at Wembley.

Once again it''s if''s, but''s and maybe''s.

Concentrate on the games coming, not what could have been.  We got knocked out  [;)]

I think the valid point here is that this year the FA Cup was really up for the taking

had we beaten Bristol we''d have faced Soton then Brisol Rovers and West Brom - would''ve been do-able

as people have said there''s nothing gained from if''s and but''s but i''m sure we''re not the only team thinking the same thing this season

anyone know what being the Cup final gets you for European places? not sure if its just the winner who gets a UEFA Cup spot?

We''d have lost to the mighty Bristol Rovers anyway...

FA Cup winner gets a place in the UEFA Cup, unless Cardiff win it as Uefa regulations prevent the Welsh side from playing in European competition as England''s representative.

And I think that''s right. It will make up for all those times they got into Europe through winning the Welsh Cup after getting knocked out of ours. I used to think we could win the Welsh Cup and get into Europe but we weren''t allowed to enter.

I also agree with Boyo. You can''t help but think what might have been. I remember back in 1976 we beat Rochdale (finally) and then Luton before losing at home to 4th Division Bradford in the 5th round. Bradford then lost to 2nd Division Southampton in the quarters who in turn went on to beat 3rd division Palace in the semi''s and famously Man. Utd. in the final. I remember feeling so strongly that we had missed out on a very good chance that year.

The FA cup is drawn out by numbered balls based on the alphabet. (i think that is right, someone correct me if i am wrong)

So even if we would have beat Bury we wouldnt have had their number and thefore would have been drawn against a different team?

The third round was done alphabetically but it seems like when a team is drawn out in one round determines that team''s ball number for the next round:

"After being drawn last in the fourth round, Cardiff were allocated ball number 16 in the draw for the fifth round."

[/quote]Don''t worry, we''d all still be here moaning about how we only beat Wolves 6-0 and why didn''t Huckerby track back after we were 5-0 up...
