In Gunns Hands We Trust! 0 Posted October 24, 2007 That headline shocked me.I thought we had him in the bag at first glance.Pinkun front page editor, I''ll get you for that, I nearly had a heart attack! [:@]
Chabal 0 Posted October 24, 2007 As an Ipswich fan and thus totally impartial (!), i feel best placed to comment. Jewell will not go to Norwich. I''m frankly amazed that people on here seriously countenance the idea that he will. I know it''s only a few of you who do this, and i know that there is circumstantial evidence to support the theory (i.e. your board strangely saying that no-one will be appointed til November when Jewell would supposedly become available), but take off your yellow tinted glasses and look at the situation.Despite the abuse they recieve, professional football players/managers clearly need to be deeply motivated and focused individuals in order to get where they are in an unbelievably competitive career path, intent on achieving the most they can in what is a short career. You wouldn''t expect a Premier League quality player to play in the Championship for the challenge, or to be under less pressure, or to play for a club in a full stadium, so why would you expect a manager to do this? If Jewell manages in the Premier League it benefits him personally (wages, prestige) and professionally (better standard of player, bigger transfer budget, bigger wage bill). It is inexplicable that he would ignore these incentives to manage a struggling Championship side and risk ruining his reputation by dropping down to League One. By the way, this is not meant to be a provocative post, i just noticed that you did the same thing last year with Curbishley as you are with Jewell at the moment, and I think those people who support these theories seriously misunderstand what kind of people professional footballers are.. Chabal 0 Posted October 24, 2007 Um, because you care who your next manager is? I would have thought that was fairly obvious.

Chabal 0 Posted October 25, 2007 Hi C.T, I don''t think i''ve looked forward to a derby match from about the age of 12 upwards! It''s only enjoyable AFTER the result (if we''ve won obviously), never before. As for confidence about winning, have you seen our away form!?
HappyhammerAndy 0 Posted October 25, 2007 Anybody out there want Alan Curbishly please? No way will Jewel go to a club at the bottom of the Championship, when he can get jobs in the premiership, if and when he wants t

Have you seen our recent form playing football anywhere?!The reason Jewell may not be as simple as the Curbishley situation is he kept Bradford up, left by his own choice, and went on to manage Wigan who had no support and were further down the league ladder than the jobs he could''ve attracted.Curbishley left Charlton because he was bored of his mundane club always struggling, yet surviving, and left with the specific intent of getting a bigger job.Jewell just wanted a break from football and achieved what he wanted at Wigan.I understand the competitive edge those in football have, and need. I don''t expect Paul Jewell to end up at Carrow Road. But I do think the situation is different to that which surrounded Curbishley last season, and I do expect the board to make every effort to get Jewell in, even if ultimately his answer is no. kdncfc 0 Posted October 25, 2007 Maybe he doesn''t want the pressure of managing a prem team, he did after all quit Wigan because of stress. I agree it is unlikely that he will come here mainly due to his ties in the North West, but I won''t count him out just yet.

For that you''ve doubt you''ve set yourself up for a volley of abuse on here but it''s nice to see your honesty, unlike some of the Suffolk schoolkids who seem to invade us in the school holidays.I admit it does sound a long shot but perhaps not as far fetched as most think. Jewell surprisingly left Wigan after their successful relegation fight which would seem, on the face of it, a strange decision. But, if I remember corrrectly, he cited family reasons as much as anything else, i.e, he was getting bad tempered at home. With us being in our present predicament I would agree that coming to Norwich won''t be moving to '' Easy Street '' but there aren''t quite the same pressures outside the Premiership so it might just appeal to him. Given that Ipswich Town would appear to be in a stronger position than us at present do you think he would similarly turn down an offer to manage the Blues ?
