Who else needs to go?

Recommended Posts

For the last couple of seasons our playing squad has been in the doldrums. In the Championship players need certain qualities and in particular need consistency over a large number of games. The deadwood is starting to drift away and freshening up is taking place. For me this began when Robinson left and Lappin arrived.

Thorne was like a milstone lifted, Earnie did nothing wrong but was too selfish, Etuhu is an infuriating athlete who Huckerby liked because, like Francis he filled in the space behind Hucks two markers, is Colin still here? Perhaps he still hasn''t crossed half way; Henderson gone for his own good, never developed.

But who else needs to go.

Gallagher: for being too far down the pecking order.

Doherty: for being a defensive liability.

Hughes: not just for his lack of ability but because of what he signifies of Worthy.

Ryan Jarvis: perhaps one more chance on loan.

And finally, that Man City reject who is so anonymous his name escapes me.

In reality one or two more may go, and not from the above, but some serious money on a centre half to help stop all those errors which cost us so dear and a couple more loans will suffice.

I also happily anticipate the emergence of some of our youth this season as very good players.

And finally, this message board has been quite vibrant, things are happening as opposed to last season when there was nothing to comment on because of Worthington''s inactivity. Well done PG.

I agree with your selection:Sadly Gallacher has made some good saves, but is unreliable and acts rashlyDoherty, POS quite recently but is not worth a regular place - possiby a squad player until his contract runs out - we wouldn''t get much for him anyway.Hughes - whole-hearted, committed more than most others, but....Ryan Jarvis - seems to have what it takes, except application. He is unlikely to play in the absence of many injuries among the strikersCroft - I have admired his commitment to the cause, his willingness to tackle back, but when you have said everything he seldom goes round or past his defender, and seems incapable of crossing or putting away goal chances. Chadwick has the advantage on him in most respects, and with Bally Smart beginning to emerge...These are the best of the Worthington accumulated deadwood, the worst having gone. None of them is really saleable, so I am not expecting them to go immediately. Most of them could fill in from the bench and do a reasonable job, but if PG can find the one or two more he''s looking for to add to the juniors coming through it''s difficult to see any of your list making much of a contribution in the future. Most of us are optimistic, and looking at various positions in the team in virtually all we have more cover and more quality. The only question is how quickly they will all bed down into an effective unit. This applies especally to David S, who has a very big adjustment to make. The fact that PG has done his business early means that they have the maximum chance to weld together pre-season.

Gallacher yes, decent goalie, probably a nice bloke but is just not good enough.  Is it fair to mess him about for another season.  Doherty, Hughes and Croft, almost definately not, all 3 are good players in my book.  Sure Hughes isn''t technically brilliant but what he lacks in talent he makes up for with passion and heart, I think we need that in the squad.

Jarvis brother, agree they should be sent out on loan.  Would like to see Ryan playing at one of league ones better sides.

I too am getting a little excited about the season ahead.  Some decent signings in there.  Give them time to gel and we could be looking at a decent team.

Gallacher and Doherty need to leave, and aout 5 youngsters should go on loan. Joe Lewis is No 1 for a loan move cause he needs it. Also going out on loan may be Ryan Jarvis, Rossi Jarvis, Bally Smart and Robert Eagle

I agree with all your suggestions appart from Lee Croft, mainly because he has only had one season in which the whole team was poor and injuries and change of manager half way through a season is almost certain to disrupt a player. Many people also forget thant he is only 21/22 which is still very young. I am not saying he would be my first choice winger because chadwick is streets ahead of him at the moment, but he is a very useful backup player and one we may need to call on a few times if chadwick continues to pick up annoying niggles here and there. So he is the one I would definately keep for the coming season.

I''m not about to argue the merits of  keeping/getting rid of The Doc because I have done it to death so often. But it would be strange if Doherty was to go after Grant extended his contract at the end of last season. But stranger things have happened I suppose and at least we would get a fee if he left now.

There is no doubt that Grant has freshened up the squad and a lot of the high earnings have left;

Out

Fleming, Robinson, Thorne, Louis-Jean, McVeigh, Henderson, Fisk, Earnie & Etuhu.

In

Chadwick, Lappin, Fotheringham, Brown, Otsemebor, Gilks, Cureton, Brellier, Marshall, Strihavka & Smith

Of the outs only Earnie is a real loss (and he wasn''t great for the TEAM) while a fit and focused McVeigh would be an asset to any team at this level.

Of the In''s a lot are unproven at this level but with the exception of Cureton they are all young ad hopefully have their best years ahead of them.

My biggest problem is the apparent lack of a signing to get everyone excited and also the failure to sign a new centre half.

As for any other departures, I would suspect that Colin will go and maybe Safri too. Plus Lewis, the Jarvis boys and he likes of Cave-Brown, Eagle & SPillane may get loan deals. I would keep the likes of Hughes and Doc as they will be good back up in the squad.

after watching lee croft in the frst couple of games last season he looked a real exciting player skillfull and had pace could easily beat his man but as the season went on it became clear that his crossing was a major downside to him if he could work on it more i could see him as are new huckerby on the left.Ididnt see chadwick last season but is meant to be better does anyone know weather he has any pace though

What about Eagle? personally i dont think hes near the standard required for a left winger, and for his age, 20, you would expect him to be a little more advanced on the ''youngsters'' in the squad e.g Martin, but he simply isn''t.. thoughts?
