Step-by-step watch Norwich Vs Chelsea ON YOUR PC - in best quality! Read on...

Recommended Posts

Hi there :)

Im sure we''re all looking forward to the clash of premiership champions compared to current lowmidtable championship team, us :)

Im also sure we''re all surprised about the reluctancy from BOTH bbc and sky to not show this game. Therefore, online streaming is the best other option (Unless of course, you want to spend this week in america, or norway, as i hear.)

In which case, read on:

www.streamick.com and several others will be of poor quality - there frame rate will be as high as possible - therefore reducing quality. The frame rate is to bear with big numbers, as it effects their bandwith hugely.

Now bare with me, im only 15 :P

HOWEVER there are programs that will inprove the quality while keeping the frame rate. Take for example, http://www.tvants.com

This site is in japanese, but the download link is obvious.

Instead of loading almost instantly, load up TvAnts 30minutes before kickoff. This will allow it to Pre-Buffer. Whether this actually will work or not im about to find out - but it seems clever. There are also technical settings which can be adjusted, they are confusing so when i find the best combination i will post them on here.

There are other ways of improving... For example, load up the stream on streamick, right-click on the screen (obviously the bit your watching) and select ''properties''. from here, you should see a link. Highlight it and press Ctrl + C on your keyboard to copy the link.

Now, the chances are you have other players such as:

Winamp

RealPlayer

Jukebox

VLC media player

etc...

On these, there will a ''File'' button to click, opening a drop-down menu. This enables you to select ''open-file'' etc. If you have an ''open-url'' select that, and press ctrl+v to paste into the appropriate box, and click OK, play or whatever. If not, simply select ''open'' or as previously mentioned ''open-file''.

This will meen you can play the stream in any other media player.

Why would it be quicker?

Often, web-embedded media players, in this case windows media player - rely''s on their bandwidth aswell (i think). also, windows media player, as other programs from microsoft (Internet explorer) are generally quite poor, and playback can be better on other media players anyway.

I hope this helped anyone confused, or anyone who didnt know!

By the way - broadband is a necessity. I cannot see 56kbps being of any use.

hogesar.

Actually, my understanding is that programs such as TvAnts work in a similar way to BitTorrent and similar programs - that is peer-to-peer streaming. By that, I mean anyone who is watching a stream is also sending it to other people and the network expands in this fashion, which is very different to normal server->client based streaming.I think the only way pre-buffering would work would be to add a delay to the start of a program which wouldn''t really be that useful.Incidentally, anyone interested in watching the match today may be interested in a quick google search for football schedules:http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=%22football+schedules%22+site%3Afootball4less.comI also hear this media player should be excellent for receiving the channels:http://www.tvunetworks.com/downloads/player.htm

BitTorrent is peer to peer DOWNLOADING. There are no live streams - you download dvds, games, videos, music etc.

Thanks Hogesar, I''m well aware of what peer-to-peer downloading is. However, there is actually no reason why this cannot be applied to other types of data - Peer-to-peer networking simply means people connect directly rather than to a server. If you look at programs such as TvAnts, PPmate, TVUPlaye, they are all examples of this principle applied to streaming media. How well this works in practice I don''t know myself.http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=peer-to-peer+streaming just for information purposes.

Cheers for that Hogesar, though streamick appears to be okay at the moment on my pc. Suppose its not quite the quality of normal telly but it''ll do. Not sure I can bring myself to watch anyway[:)].

I will be using this for the game today, which shows ESPN''s coverage...http://www.live-footy.org/sat17.2/Chelsea_Norwich.htmlGot it working well in Internet Explorer at the moment, and it doesn''t stop to buffer too often. All you have to do is follow the link to download SopCast and open up Channel 9, which should be in full English.

Fair play, but in a sense its not the same because the channel itself is hosted upon a server :)

Why bother fiddling? It''s decent enough quality, something is better than nothing - ie, Roy Waller and Neil Adams... Zzzzzzzzzz.... Just over-complicating things, really...

just had a try fiddling.  Put it onto realplayer instead of streamick .  Only adavantage is ability to change screen size to whatever you want instead of just small or full screen.  quality no different.  Like you say monkey, i am over the moon to have any pictures at all so thanks to everyone who has posted the links up the last couple of days.
