Ulf Ottosson 0 Posted July 19, 2006 IF you reading Carl - here is some free advice - grow your hair, dye, change cos at the moment you are a dead ringer for Andy Hughes and the fact that you look just like him particularly from the back of the stand and because of this you have been unfairly judged by the city fans. As I feel he''s a good play who wants to get the ball down and play and I am looking forward to him doing a good job for us next season
Evil Monkey 52 Posted July 20, 2006 My free advice for Carl Robinson?Quit football and go open some tea-rooms on Yarmouth sea-front.
FilletTheFishWife . 0 Posted July 20, 2006 I think he ''has'' been fairly judged. He is poor. Spends most of the game hiding. Hughes makes far more effort and because of this his mistakes are more conspicuous.
Canary02 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Funny.Robinson''s frustrating because he has the ability, but he disappears, he makes bad decisions and he''s sloppy. If you could give him Hughes'' passion he''d be a decent player.Maybe that''s the answer... calling all mad scientists.....
blahblahblah 2 Posted July 20, 2006 No death, you''re all wrong there.Cromers'' a much better pitch.Robinson will play well when we start looking like a team that can pass and receive passes again.

Mook 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Totally agree with Fillet and Canary02 - he hides behind his man, doesn''t show for the ball and daren''t make the play. And for a "playmaker", making the play is fairly important! Hughes may be limited, but he is brave and he will keep showing for the ball.
ZLF 335 Posted July 20, 2006 The best I have seen from Robbo is far better than the best I have seen from Hughes, even when he is hiding and on an off day is more effective than Hughes. But its a bit like comparing apples and pears as Robbo is a central midfielder and Hughes likely to be our right side man.Of the two I also think Robbo has the most capacity to improve and deliver on a regular basis, so would go with him every time in central midfield. As yet though neither strikes me as being a real partner or replacement for Safri. In the absence of any new faces I can see Hughes being the first choice right midfielder though. I remember the first time I saw him play - at carrow road a few years back. When he took to the field I remarked to my mate about his presense - big strong - what a player. We beat them 3 nil and he did nothing. He is all appearances - He does not play like a footballer.
Mook 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Zipper - please don''t say that stuff about Hughes being our right-sided midfielder. You''re sapping my enthusiasm for the new season already!!!
Canary02 0 Posted July 20, 2006 I think unfortunately chaps we have to be realistic and acknowledge that the season is likely to start with a team that looks either like this: GKFleming CB CB LBHughes Robinson CM LW S Sor GKFleming CB CB LB Robinson DM Hughes AM LW S Can anybody spot the best way to attack us? (I''ll give you a clue, I''ve inserted the names...)
ZLF 335 Posted July 20, 2006 I have a challenge for you mook - and to anyone else who can lift mooks depression that I have caused! We sign no new faces before the Leeds game (which is starting to look possible); who do you put on the right flank? I am struggling name anyone better than Hughes [:''(] I cant see it being hendo (who doesnt deserve the chinese water torture of continuing to be played out of position anyway) and doubt it will be one of the youth players. WLY is not over effective there and the only other alternative is MLJ who is injured or Colin moving forward covered by Flem. Answers on a postcard please (or alternatively a season supply of prozac for me and Mook, c/o pink un)
Evil Monkey 52 Posted July 20, 2006
Can anybody spot the best way to attack us?
Coming up the river at night and launching a surprise attack at dawn would be my guess...
Mook 0 Posted July 20, 2006 Ok Zip, here''s my (bright) idea...Midfield of Hughes, Safri and Robbo/EtuhuHucks behind the strikers, and Earnie and McKenzie up front.NO WINGERS!! Full backs getting forward at every opportunity and Hughes doing what he does best, gut busting running around, covering the full backs and breaking up play, giving the ball to Safri and Robbo to start play.Howzat? San Miguel 0 Posted July 20, 2006 I think its harsh to judge Carl Robinson yethe''s never actually played for us so far

Yellow Rages 0 Posted July 20, 2006 I think Carl Robinson could look like a good player if the team were to play a quick one/two touch passing game on the floor. He didn''t fit into our system last season because that just isn''t the way we played. He does get the ball down and looks for the short 10-15 yard pass and he has got a good awareness of whats around him. He looked like he lacked confidence to me last season but if we do intend to play more football, I think he will shine through more. What goes against him though is that by being this way, he isn''t very adaptable. Sometimes players need to adapt to a game situation and play a different way. I don''t think he can do that.
Syteanric 1 Posted July 20, 2006 I agree with all thats been said...i have been supporting the club since 1991 and i think Carl Robinson is the worst player i have ever seen in a City Shirt.Other players might have been worse skill wise but u always knew they were there, they ran and ran, or they might of had something in their game, EG: perhaps they were capabale of a good tackle here and there, or perhaps they had nothing in their game but were good in the air. I have yet to see anything that convinces me that Carl Robinson is a professional footballer.. he has been released by almost a dozen different clubs and the 50,000 we paid for him makes that his only (and therefore highst) ever transfer fee... Every so often u come accross a player thjat uwatch and think "how the hell did he ever make it as a pro.. im better than him" i think that weekly when i see Robinson play...Hughes has passion and Desmond Tutu can be a decent footballer when he isnt poncing about but Carl Robinson is just hopeless.jas :)
