The good stuff

Recommended Posts

Just to raise the spirits a little.

What were the positives from last night from your perspective?

Key moments. Improvements. Players singled out for praise.

For me, it looked like Long had a good one and perhaps there is a player in there somewhere.

Fassnacht showing that in shorter bursts he can really get into it and make stuff happen

McCallum looking like he needs more freedom to attack and to whip balls in. Needs sharpening up but that's a clear skill of his we need to better utilise.

Nunez getting back to his best

Positives from my perspective were that at times in the second half the midfielders  linked up well and we started to cut them open in a way I’ve rarely seen us do to teams in recent months.

Long played well. Stacey got forward a bit more. McCullum good second half and Nunez also was very good.

The other one, and I can only hope this might be the penny dropping, is that at no time did he play with two strikers. He stuck with 4-2-3-1 even when Barnes came on. I can only hope that is the template now moving forward but I fear we will see Barnes playing behind Sargent again on Saturday.

Only seen the highlights as will all of us that didn't go, but I did pick up on the much quicker and direct link up play between midfield. Really hope Wagner has the stones to keep doing it.

Didn’t happen much first half, in my view because Kenny kept dropping too deep in between the centre backs leaving Sorensen in the middle on his own marked by two or three Bristol players. As a result we ended up going long a lot.

Sorensen is back and is seems even though he was shafted to play centreback due to Batth getting injured he did a good job and is seemingly destined to be our missing link defensive midfielder

Kenny scored a great goal

McCallum put in a hell of a shift and is starting to look less rusty

Long has turned into Buffon

Reminds me of the time Declan Rudd turned into David De Gea :classic_wink:

I'm not sure Sorensen has the quality to be a regular starter for us if I'm honest, and Wagner has shown no sign of wanting to play with a 'conventional' DM in the Tettey mould.

My guess would be that we'll activate the one-year extension and keep him as a squad player, and whoever the new head coach is will sign a specialist DM in the summer (I remain convinced that Knapper will ditch Wagner in the summer unless we somehow go up through the playoffs).
