Coventry making money money money

Interesting to see. Few months back they sold Gyokeres to Sporting for €20 million and now they're about to sell Hamer to Sheffield United for £15 million. Both good players mind but neither with real major top flight experience..

And meanwhile we are selling Aarons who was once touted for between 20 and 30 million, has played plenty of games in the top flight and the England under 21's for whats said to be around 7 to 9 million.

Isn't money getting funny?

Yes, potentially 12 million, plus Stacey for free.

Bottom half, never really troubling the play-offs but practically safe from relegation 6 games out.........but then again that's what I thought last year 🙂

Sounds about right. Depends how Robins is backed before the window closes really.

Nah its just norwich being norwich

Actually one of the elements of the job Webber has excelled at is getting good fees for talent. From Murphy to Buendia. You just sound like Eeyore finding pessimism in everything.

Well, rather similar to us really. Soon as a player starts playing well we have to sell him to keep our club afloat due to our model.

That is literally the opposite to what you said before though.

If that was accurate you wouldn't have asked why we were getting so little for Aarons...

Fact is, and it is a fact. We pretty much put Aarons in the shop window for three seasons and no serious bites. The only confirmed offer that we received, confirmed by club AND player, was a no obligation loan to Barcelona which would likely have been to their B team. That's it.

Otherwise, Farke was supposedly sniffing around last summer and this summer. But for whatever reason last summer his German club didn't feel he was what they needed - at least, if they were at all. This summer Farke wanted him at Leeds but primarily because he knew him and knows he is a decent Championship fullback at least. Bournemouth isn't a particular step up in terms of club, it's premier league football and a shot at getting at least a season more of that.

As others have said, getting £15-20m for a full back has to mean that they excel at important aspects to that positions game. Aarons has a fantastic engine, a good turn of pace, a bit of skill and he can pass. However, does he excel defensively? No. Does he excel in the final third? No. I would say his strength is transitioning from back to front due to his pace and the skill he has.

In fairness, Byram, when fit, was a better all round defender. Perhaps less pacey and skilful but he could deliver a more consistent ball in the final third. To the degree that some folks on here felt he was better in the premier league than Aarons.

Aarons in the final year of his contract as a defender is never going to get that £15-20m even if he was worth it. Players that score goals and/or assist them are always going to be worth more money. Much more money. Hence why we have seen £10m+ exchanged for championship strikers a lot more than we have seen it exchanged for full backs, centre backs and goalkeepers.

In reality it is good seeing as the 12 million pays the salary of both players for several years.

The hype about ridiculous transfer fees that in reality were never going to happen creates the reaction. Probably the same with Omo and Sara.

Absolutely agree.

"In 1897 the Quag was valued at 2s. 3d,  then for a time his value was undetermined due to the war years. By 2013 he was maybe valued around 10 mill spondoolies, dropping to maybe 750k by 2023.  Here in 2033 his value is around 11p (which equates to about 2s. 3d) but rumours suggest City are still sitting and pondering on a move for Quag."

'Perhaps' doing some heavy lifting in this baffling paragraph.

In a discussion on opinions, it is perfectly fine to leave a statement open to debate by using 'perhaps' or 'arguably'.

As for baffling, I was reflecting upon opinions shared by posters on here. They reflected on a time when Byram was preferred to Aarons, albeit only for a period of a handful of games IIRC.
