Player reports

Player reports -

Krul - too many attempted passes going out of play, giving hospital passes to Gilmour who had with three players around him and no easy outlet.

Aarons - no mistakes I saw, just not enough support from midfielders

Hanley - a bit laboured at times, not at fault for the first goal imo.

Gibson - best of the back four

Giannoulis - left with too much to do on his own, not enough defensive midfield cover. When he did get the ball at his feet he did ok.

Mumba - excellent, very good half of football

Cantwell - missed a few opportunities to pass the ball forwards, instead turning back and the moments lost.

Lees-Melou - some good touches but a bit off the pace imo - that should improve as he settles to it.

Gilmour - some good touches but not enough help from those around him

Rupp - disappointing, Man City players too quick for him.

Maclean - Did ok second half, neither good nor bad.

Sargent - looks to be a real player, looking forwards to seeing him develop

Pukki - hardly a kick in the whole game, needs to build a rapport with Rashica

Rashica - plainly has a bit about him, difficult match for him, but he stuck to his task and helped in defence too.

Overall - today, just a bit cr*p. Have to react to these two matches, learn from them and develop better teamwork with the new players getting better at integrating with the rest.

Yet some fans moaned when we signed him saying his record isn't good enough blah blah blah

Mumba looked terrific. Although he was at fault for the 3rd goal - didn't see the run coming & was left trailing in the wake of their winger. He missed one later as well, but luckily it came to nothing

That's just down to inexperience though - he won't have played against players that good before. Overall he looked excellent, full of potential, a really good addition to the squad.

Interestingly you didn't mention McLean but to be fair I didn't notice him either. I suppose that might be a good thing as I certainly noticed the hapless Rupp - just cannot be allowed to start against Leicester.

Other than the 2nd goal which he really should have kept out with his other foot.

Pretty much agree with your assessment on him and the rest of the team though.

I agree with most of your report but I think you've leaned slightly too on the kind side (understandably, it was always going to be a tough ask) however both Giann and Mumba were dealt a harsh lesson today, neither can come out of that game error-free for me.

The whole team basically lacked quality against world-class players. The good news is that most of the same players can definitely hold their own against the lower-half teams in terms of natural quality (Rupp aside) but I lay the blame at Farke for today. It was slightly bizarre to play 4-3-3 against Liverpool, but to play it away to Man City and then play Pukki over Sargent was suicidal really. Sargent offers you that physicality to atleast content balls which Pukki doesn't.

We were never going to win today but the manner of the defeat was very poor from all concerned. The blame for today has to go to Farke for the formation/team selection.

He knows where we need to buy players though, let's get those 3 in, and really give Leicester a go.

Lakey's take is fair I think. We can expect McLean to recover and leave Gilmour a bit less exposed. Rashica was a bit of a meathead, but I like his energy. If he doesn't start getting Teemu's positioning and timing however, we are in trouble. Teemu needs to understand that if his teammates don't supply him with the ball, he needs to go get it himself and like, try dribbling the whole field atleast once. And he needs to stop slipping like dry grass was a banana peel.
