Splendid Rush 0 Posted January 26, 2006 If you take into account each player''s strongest positions, our squad looks like this:GK RB CB LBGreen Louis Jean Fleming DruryWard Colin Shackell BrennanGallacher Doherty Charlton RM CM LM Safri Huckerby Hughes Robinson Ethuhu Jarrett Rossi Jarvis CF McKenzie McVeigh Thorne Ryan Jarvis HendersonNow, there may be a little bit of debate with this (Is Charlton a left back or a centre back, is Brennan a left back or left midfielder etc.) but disregarding that, this breakdown of the squad surely goes to show what a terrible state we are currently in, and that maybe strengthening the attack should not be a priority at this point in time. Crazy Eddie 0 Posted January 26, 2006 I assume those columns didn''t line up exactly as you intended? I agreewe need at least one right mid, but I would also argue we need astriker. I''m not sold on Thorne, Hendo or even McKenzie being able toconsistantly come up with the goods. Ryan''s not exactly been prolific, not that he''s had much of a chance, that said, if you have an injuryproblem you can''t be depended on. That leaves McViegh as the onlystriker currently at the club I have full confidence in, and hiscontract''s up at the end of the season. We should be ok at right backwith Colin and Hughes, but MLJ? Will we ever see him again? For me I''dbe happy to see Jerome and Harford arrive before end of month andthat''s as much as I dare hope for (and that''s optomistic). Splendid Rush 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Annoyingly, the pagination messed up - All players under LM should be CM and Huckerby under LM, as you have probably worked out by now...
Huddy 0 Posted January 26, 2006 I dont believe that list of strikers would get us into thye top half of the table. Mcveigh is the only striker on the list if played all season would score more than 10 -15 goals.Ryan Jarvis is injury prone it seems and needs to be loned out, not thrown straight into the 1st team.Hendo isnt as bad as people make out, but will never score many goals.Mckenzie in my view isnt good enough any more. He''s had alot of injuries and i feel sorry for him and you cant critisize his effort, unfortunately that alone wont score many goals.Thorne clearly isnt good enough, he''s scored 1 goal and misseds a million other chances.I''m afraid to say that if we had this strrikeforce for a whole season i reckon we would get relegated. We MUST sign a striker or the rest of the season will be a disaster.

huck tastic
Bryan Hamilton could turn this around...
0 Posted January 26, 2006 I think most of us have been banging on about the lack of a right midfielder for some time.. I think Worthy (wrongly in my opinion) wants Hughes to play there, partly to balance out Hux on the other side not contributing much defensively...Trouble is that it tends to mean our attacking play, particularly with the problems at right back, tends to be either hump it long or mainly through Hux...Of the strikers, it obviously comes down to the right partnership, lack of Ashton might mean less of a long ball game...I think McVeigh and McKenzie might work well together, McV ability to drop off and play clever passes...Also want Jarvis to be given a proper run Worse case scenario is probably a panic buy of someone lumberingAkinbiyi 1.75m? snigger snigger... Ginja 43 Posted January 26, 2006 I would say a new striker is the least of our worries, we definaitly need a good defender (right back) and a good midfielder. Recently we havnt had much trouble scoring, more a lack of keeping a clean sheet
Dionysus 0 Posted January 26, 2006 Yes we do need a new striker. I can''t see any of those currently at the club getting more than 15 a season, even injury free. This is just not good enough for a team hoping for promotion.Unfortunately we also need a decent right back, another centre back (Fleming and Charlton''s days are numbered), at least one right winger, at least one quality central midfielder and decent left wing cover for Huckerby. Not going to happen.
